Perth Attractions

We are coming over to validate on 14th July for 3 weeks

What attractions, in your opinion, must we definitely see to make the most of our time there?

We are staying in Rockingham so I guess things / places which are within a 2 hour drive radius of Perth CBD would be good.

Hopefully the weather will improve for you, Fremantle Prison Tour/ Rotnest Island/Whiteman Park/ Kings park/Aqwa at Hillarys boat Harbour just afew for starters. Unfortunatley it probably won't be beach weather but saying that we get quite a few days in winter when the temp hits mid 20s.
Try to get a drive around the areas mentioned on here to get a general feel for the area that might be of interest for you to live and where your work will be.
Good Luck and Enjoy your trip over

We visited all thoses places when we visited last year. Absolutley loved them all
Would have loved to do the night time Fremantle Prison visit. But with 3 kids that was a definate no no....(It was creepy enough in the day!)
We visited a massive outdoor aqualand place, don't think it was far from Rockingham (if the weather picks up for you that is!).
There was loads of leaflets in the airport when we landed that gave us all the info on where the best places were to go.
Enjoy your trip - I've gotta wait it November :( Although we may only have to go the 1 way hopefully :)

That must be Adventure World at Bibra Lake, we haven't been there yet but our daughter keeps on about the place. We will do that when it gets towards the summer though

The freemantle prison tour is a must, especially if you can do the night time tour.

Take a day trip to rottness Island as well.

The aquarium at Hilary's is a nice trip as well.

If your into sport, do the guided tour around the WACA to.

Yeh thats it! Fantastic day out, when we were leaving you could buy a return ticket for $10 each to go back within a 2 week period. Well worth it. Food was expensive so i would take a picnic with you.

Re: Perth Attractions

If you're staying in Rockingham, do the Rockingham Wildlife Encounters tour: Penguin Island, seals etc (but wrap up warm like others have said).

Some other Perth things:

- Hop on/hop off tram tour (Perth Tram Company): It goes all over Perth and Kings Park and has a fabulous live commentary. Get on it at Barrack Street Jetty. The tram tour is much miuch better than the double-decker bus tour. It's pricey but you get vouchers to get into other attractions half-price.

- Perth Mint (half-price with voucher from above).

- Swan Bells: time it right and the kids get to ring one of the bells (phone before you go to find out what the right time is).

- AQWA at Hillarys.

- If you go to Rottnest do wrap up warm and book yourself on the bus tour. Rottnest is miserable if you're cold (speaking from experience here).

If it rains a lot while you're here, don't be put off. It is just winter and for winter it's not that bad compared to the UK.

- Caversham Wildlife Park: It's situated in Whiteman Park. If you want to get up close and personal to Australian wildlife then this is better than the zoo. At Cav you can get into the kangaroo enclosure and hand-feed the roos. You can also go in to the koala enclosure and stroke them. And - if you get there at the right time - you can go to see and stroke the wombat and his friend.

- Captain Cook cruise from Perth to Fremantle (leaves from Barrack Street Jetty). You often see dolphins on this one as well.

- Depending how old your kids are: as well as doing the daytime Fremantle Prison tour, do the "tunnels tour". (Check website re the kids ages. And you need to pre-book this one whereas you can just turn up for the daytime tour.)

I am being lazy and not looking up all the websites for the above. But just google them.

It is good but no use to the OP as it closes down over the winter.

Last week we went to see the Submarine Ovens in Fremantle - next to the maritime museum. Excellent guide who was good with my 2 boys (6 and 8).

Years ago I used to entertain for corporate functions at Freo Gaol. Two of us dressed as guards would frogmarch the clients off the bus and keep them in check for the night ( comic). We also had a couple of convicts that we would chase around, complete with fizzing bomb, big explosion, finish off with a disco. It was great fun and good money.
Previous post said it was creepy in there.I had a mate who used to be hidden in a cell for the night time tour. When the tour would pass the cell ,he would rush at the bars and scare the the tish out of them. One night they forgot to let him out.A security guard found him at 4am.He wasn't too happy.
