Default Perth area places to visit

We visited Perth a couple of years ago but only for 5 days. We managed to visit the main places in the City plus Freemantle.
We are staying for 10 days at the end of the year Dec/Jan and wondered if anyone had anysuggestionss for places to visit, within driving distance of the city, that are considered a must see.
the only idea we have at the moment is Swan River and the wine tours. Also thought about the Margaret River area but not sure about the distance.
Any idea would be appreciated.

You living in australia? Or an international visitor? Because different attractions attract different visitors.....

Wave rock is a hellof a drive from perth.... All day job there and back, but considered a must... Be bloody hot then.... I wouldnt waste the fuel myself....

Pinnacles.... A must see... But a bit disappointing......

Margaret River...YES!!!!! But that would entail staying down there a couple of days and not in perth..... Likewise albany etc....

Moore River is a nice day out... If you start early....

Inland plenty of little places to go see, an easy drive... If you just want to see countryside...

ROTTNEST... Is fabulous.... Unless you enter the ballot and get lucky with the accommodation you'll be limited to a day trip....

What are you looking to get out of your stay??????

Thanks for the info.
We are visiting so we have about 10 days to see what we can. As I said Perth City and Freemantle we did last time so we are looking for other destinations/point of interest.
What do we want out of our stay. I suppose a mix of coastal and inland, I think we will take in Margaret River and stay over for a night or two. We are really really flexible but we dont want to spend days driving arround so I guess that limits the choice some.
Any other ideas you have would be appreciated.

Highly recommend Serpentine Dam in Jarrahdale, about 30-40minute drove from Perth city centre
http://www.watercorporation.com.au/D...serpentine.cfm. Lovely drive to get there and stunning scenery at the dam and falls.

Further afield recommend Busselton, Eagle Bay, Yallingup, Albany and Denmark. The Tree Top Walk at nearby Walpole is brilliant.

Damn... Forgot the obvious..... ROCKINGHAM!!!!!!

Mandurah and dolphins

Any golf course anywherr in perth ... For kangaroos.... Especially rockingham ...in the evening just before dusk....

Combine that with a ferry ride to penguin island, or dolphin swimming trip from the jetty... Fish n chips on the beach at Point Peron (walk down to the right of the car park as you face the ocean for the best bay in WA) and walk up to the gun towers... See strombolites in the rockingham lake... Rather than trekking up to cervantes to see them.....

Drive south of mandurah, for lake cliffton. On the way back, turn into a suburb called Melrose. Hundreds of roos in people gardens. Then into mandurah for a wander around the foreshore and fish and chips while the sun sets. Maybe spend the night, then up to rockinham and a trip to penguin island then a paddle and swim at Rockingham.
