Its the 2002 Perth street directory 44th edition.
It give you all locations of schools, uni's, hospitals, parks,
railway stations and bus depots, with distances from perth.

Re: Perth again !

I bought two editions last year whilst waiting for our visas, one for Perth and one for the rest of WA, both via amazon.co.uk. The 2003 edition is now out in the shops here so you might want to make sure you order the up-to-date edition.

It was very useful being able to see so much detail re shops, schools etc. in the different localities, trying to decide just which part of WA to move to. In our first week here, it felt really strange actually driving along all those roads which I had looked at so many times in the road atlas!

We narrowed our choices down to the Mandurah suburbs, and having been here 5 weeks now and driven round the area many times, we haven't been disappointed. We've been to Perth city a few times too, and it's a lovely place (so clean compared to London) but city-living isn't for us.

Hi guys

It's not sad at all...what may be sadder however, is we use our Perth UBD to look up all the houses for sale on the various real estate sites....nice to know how close you're gonna be to the beach etc ;)

For those of you going to Perth try some of these sites...should keep you amused for a while (or in Tipper and baldbutts cases, out of mischief :))

happy virtual house hunting.

Re: Perth again !

Baldbutts, there's so many new housing estates being built round here that the 2003 edition will quickly go out-of-date too I guess, but if you're not planning on leaving the UK for some time yet, a 2002 edition would suit your purposes I'm sure.

Sophia, we didn't want to be too far from a beach either, and I couldn't imagine not having a UBD atlas to refer to when house-hunting - at least that way you can immediately rule out those houses next to a busy road, close to the sewage works, etc!

Talking of house-hunting, what a painless experience that was! We started looking in our second week, and three weeks later we already have the keys to our new home! Being cash buyers helped of course, but apart from that, there was no delay with solicitors and searches like you get in the UK, the process is dealt with by a "settlement agent". And you only have to deal with one real estate agent too. Find a good one (like we did) and they will also show you around properties that are advertised with other agents; the agents then share the commission. If anyone is hoping to look in the Mandurah area, I would definitely recommend contacting Linda Knight of L.J.Hooker Real Estate (do a search on this forum). She went out of her way to help us in our search, and was very patient in our quest to find the property that was "just right". I'm sure she must have wondered at times if we would ever find that elusive home! Our keys were presented in a little box tied with ribbon, along with a bottle of bubbly and congratulations card. She has since called in on us at the house, just to make sure we are all getting on ok and that there have been no problems.

Got me copy of Perth 2003 today. It's a good buy.Recommend it especially to the likes of Tipper etc who'll no doubt be be a travelling tradesman (be entering via the tradesman's entrance Down Under i expect )

Right,I'm off to learn how to cut and paste newspaper articles coz they're much more interesting than threads like these.

The reson they seem to go out of their way to show you around is that if they get you to buy a house that is being sold by another agent they get half of the selling fee without putting anything into it like advertising etc. Also an agent that has 2 ppl interested in a house they are selling (one of his clients and 1 from another agent) they will always push the seller to go with their buyer even if thwe other may want to offer a bit more.(illegal but it does go on).
