Our Agencie believes that Perth is the best location for us to move to (which wont be till the later end of next year) due to Scotts job as a Gas Fitter and the lower temperatures.

Please can we have more info and is anyone wanting to relocate there to?

My boyfriend and I are hopefully heading to Perth in Jan next year. He also works for Brittish gas although as an electrician and not a gas fitter. We went to Perth in Dec for 3 weeks, although not long we both had a fab time and are really excited about our future in Perth. This website will help you out lots im sure in making your choice, although I would say to you to have an open mind, some people love Perth but some people really hate Perth. I was one who loved it, but that is just my opinion and as it was just a holiday it may not be a true reflection on how life will be when we get there. We tried as much as possible not to treat it too much like a holiday, stayed in apartments, went and done the boring things like food shopping, cooking, cleaning etc, we found the people very friendly and enjoyed talking to them, spent a day in Bunburry with an Ozzy family, and also the people we rented the apartment from had us over with their family for xmas dinner!! thats just a bit of my experience of Perth, hopefully it may help a bit, and im sure there will be others along with their stories soon, if you want any more help or a chat feel free.

Much appreciated. We've never been to Oz so gonna stay very open minded. We hope to travel to a few places when we get there to then make our minds up but ultimately we'l go were the work is!

Yer this website is great!! so very useful and it would be so nice to make friends along the way as the propect of leaving the uk to another countrie and being lonely is very daunting!!

So hows everything going with your application so far?? Were just at the start of ours.. not even filled in any forms... just paid the fees to agencie to get us started. Well we past the points test at a£195 cost lol but worthit saves all stress and hassel at home and we can concentrate on researching etc.

Is 70,000A$ per year considered a good salary in Perth?

Will it take care of expenses,rent car etc etc for a family of 3?

Inputs/Suggestions from folks will help us in our move.

Not sure this is accurate - Perth has a very hot summer - temps regularly in the high 30's and gets up to 40+ but is rarely humid.

Hi we just came back from validating visas in Perth and hoping to move over as soon as we sell our house We had a great time and yes I know it was a holiday and living there is different, but it just felt right, my OH is an Electrician and we managed to get a few leads when we were over there so fingers crossed. All in all Perth seems a great place to live and we will give it a go. Good luck to you hope it works out for you

We have been in Perth for 2 years now and absolutley love it.
As with anywhere it has both ups and downs but definatley more ups for us.
We dont have any children but without doubt Perth is a children friendly place.
I so wish I could have lived here as a kid
My one piece of advice find the right place for you to live, if you love the beach rent/buy close to the beach. Try renting first in different areas before you jump 2 feet in and buy somwhere you might like at first but hate a months down the line.
Our friends have just gone home cos they were bored here.
They bought a 2 bed appartment close to city, and got cabin fever, they never managed to get out of the city. They worked there, lived there socialised there ultimatley got bored. They also didnt make many friends.
We rented for a year and socialise as much as we can, I have joined football club and made heaps of friends.

Hello folks... I've been living here for the past 24 years, moved here from Ireland. It's been a fantastic experience watching Perth grow from a town to a major modern city with the perfect lifestyle to go with it.
Right now we are planning to move again, this time to Spain. Want to get back to europe and closer to home again.

My opinion of Perth... It's a fabulous, clean, vibrant city. Friendly people, plenty to do. The perfect lifestyle for young families who love the beaches, outdoor life, sports minded, cafe/restaurant culture. Good standard of schools and planty of work in the resources industry for trades people. Don't believe the press for one minute that the boom is slowing. I work in the resources industry and work is plentiful. Someone mentioned a salary scale of 70K. That's about average although in the mining industry expect it to be above 100K. Average rent in the metro area $500-$600 for a house and suburbs around $400-$500. So you could very easily manage with one person working.

If I had one piece of advise, and this is from many years watching people come and go and come back again, becasue their expectations and the reality of living here didn't match. When you arrive, you won't know anyone, make friends as soon as you can, network, get out. These may be your partners work colleagues, the other parents from your children's school... whatever. The most common thing I hear from new arrivals is the feeling of isolation and homesickness, no matter what independant frame of mind you arrive with. Things will be different, rest assured of that. I've heard people complaining that vegetables taste different, so does chocolate, yes there are mosquitos during the summer and they bite, flies everywhere, the relentless heat, (getting into your car after it's been sitting in the sun for as little as 10 minutes in 40c is a challenge) but then there is air conditioning and bug spray and trust me... go with the flow, embrace the place, love it.

I know there is plenty of information here regarding Perth, but if there is anything missed and you want to know I will try to find it for you.
ohh and why am I leaving...? i miss the culture of europe, I've given it 24 years and now it's time for a change.

Hi Guys , speaking as a gas service engineer who validated in perth 18 mont
hs ago and still waiting to sell home here, there is one piece of advice i would implore you to think about;

Research, research, research the jobs available for gas fitters first before committing.Your agent may be giving you false hope if you expect to arrive in Australia and get a job as a gasman.The vast majority of jobs are Plumber/gas fitter, with plumbing being the primary demand, however, there are more stickin g points, namely, just because you might get your perm res visa as a gas fitter because its on the modl list, does NOT mean you can trade as a gasfitter when you get there.And to be a plumber they will expect you to go back to college and start again as an apprentice before you can be licensed.That is my understanding so far for WA, if im inaccurate i apologise, but imho its better to be prepared, i personally know guys whove gone, come home again cos they couldnt be a gas fitter straight off the plane, couldnt afford to stay and had to return to nothing here either.Look online for gas jobs......... its not encouraging.4 years in Tafe college isnt funny either as an apprentice, and plumbing Oz style isnt the same as in the UK.

Please dont let this put you off going, Im still going but am prepared to look at other trades and jobs because I dont believe there is enough gas work unless you are very very lucky.Just dont take your agents or anyones word for gospel.DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!!
