HI,
What are your views of Perth. It looks like a very attractive city.Does the remoteness affect anyone? Is their anywhere to go for weekends. What are the temperatures?Any opinions please. Thankyou |

Perth is fabulous. I am biased though as thats where we want to settle. It is remote but so what. It has everything you could want. The city is beautiful the temp is lovely all year round. In the summer it has a natural breeze that comes in the afternon "freemantle doctor" its nick named.
There is so much to do and it is as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. The parks, zoos and beaches are beautiful.........etc etc etc I could go on forever I LOVE IT!! Amanda xx |

Perth is FAB.
We went for three weeks earlier in the year, had a good look around and LOVED it. Clean, friendly, lots to see and do, fab weather, loads of brill beaches and parks, great zoo, the wonderful Rottnest Island, Swan River, close to Margaret River, Mandurah and lots more. We hope to be there soon. ( You'll always get people who dislike it 'cos of a lack of opera houses or lack of old buildings or whatever they can think of at the time, but if you like clean and friendly, great weather, great beaches and parks, plenty of places to shop, plenty of work opportunities, plenty of things to see and do, loads of great places to eat, this could well be the place for you. ) |

Thankyou I am not sure what you mean by remote. All I can say is, it is not so remote compared to Sydney and Melbourne. It is too relaxed, calm and quiet if you have moved here from a busy city. I do not think people living here don't like to go out in night and enjoy life. Now look at me.. I am typing this on a Sunday.. at 2 PM.. It is hard for me to think what else to do now coz nothing much to do here. This has happened simply because they do not allow shops, businesses to operate as per free market principles. Instead, they have put loads of restrictions, like trying to teach a 3 year old kid how to use the toilet. It is beyond any norms and this is the main bottleneck Perth has to become the most vibrant city in Australia. It has all infrastructure and perfect location closer to south east asia (over 2 billion people) .. I feel sorry for the kids here.. I do not think they have many things to do here other than experiencing BBQ's with extended family members. It has few nite clubs in the city and a big casino complex in Burswood. Well.. that's not the kind of entertainment where anyone can go and enjoy. It is hard to describe what is missing.. but I feel something in life is missing here.. In any country you get good and bad side of it. Here you get loads of good things and then you get these little missing parts.. still not heard of any bad things. Well...I am just 1 month new here.. |

Thankyou There are plans afoot to drag it into the 21st century and I'm sure we'll get there one day soon. The place is shut on Sundays and evenings so it's not very good for tourists but then you won't be a tourist if you decide to settle here will you? The weather is not glorious all year round. It can get bitterly cold during the June, July and August evenings. Add the fact that houses are generally badly insulated and it can be really uncomfortable during those months. The people are said to be friendly. I'd say they were more polite and courteous than friendly. There's lots of, "Have a nice day", "no... after you" and "How are you today?" But they are very insular and I have said this elsewhere on these forums, the musical genius that is Morrissey once said in one of his songs, "Here everyone's friendly, but nobody's friends". He wasn't singing about Perth, but I feel he could easily have been. The locals that I have met have all kept an emotional distance from me. Could it be my deoderant perhaps? ;) If you move here. I wish you all the best and hope you enjoy it. |
