Permanent Medications
 

Hi, just a thought, I am on meds for the rest of my natural life, and as such here in UK I get my monthly scripts free. Is there such an arrangement in Oz? If not, can you tell me how much prescriptions are?

Also medical insurance which is best company to go with?

Hope someone can advise.

No, scripts are not free, if the medication is on the PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme ie subsidised), you pay up to a max of around $24 (does anyone know, has this gone up recently? I had to pay $28 for a script the other day, unless its a non PBS item?). If you are a low income earner, you will be entitled to a Health Care Card which entitles you to prescriptions at a reduced rate (currently $3.80/script I think) .

As for medical insurance - how long is a piece of string? :) Many companies are similar, it mainly comes down to the extras cover & which specialist services covered you are likely to use.

Have a look at http://www.iselect.com.au/ for a small selection of funds available but be aware that many of the larger companies like Medibank Private, MBF, HBA etc are not included in the comparisons on Iselect.
