Default People from Perth -- please suggest

Hi,

Me and my wife have moved to Perth from India 2 weeks back. We are in the process of finalizing on our long term rental and since I dont know a lot about the places, your views and opinions would be very valuable in my decision making.

We have looked at this Furnished 2 Bedroom apartment in the Medina building at 138, Barrack Street in Perth City. We like the rent and the furnishings that come along and the proximity to various shopping places, train station and CBD make it very attractive for us and we are keen on this apartment.

I want your opinion on the location of the apartment. Is Barrack Street between Murray St and Wellington St good? Is the location safe in the late evenings/night? Do you foresee any problems for us living there? Any inputs would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Are you sure you want to live in the CBD? Just asking because I think it has so little to offer, really.. other places like Fremantle in my eyes just have so much more going for them... but thats just me!

Agreed. CBD doesnt have a lot to get excited about except for a walk on the riverside. But both of us work in CBD and we are planning to live there just to save on the commute time and it does have enough shopping places, restaurants and cafes.

Once we get used to the city and know it better we would have more clarity on the things we want and suburbs we would like to live. Eventually say in 6 months or so we would move to a different place.

I personally would definitely live there if I didn't have children. As you said it is a great location for proximity to the CBD, train station etc yet far enough away from Northbridge area which can get a bit rowdy at night. Good luck.

No, don't do it. There are some X-rated shops/bar/show opposite and the clientele do hang around! Friends stayed there with kids when they moved over and had to move.

What about Waldorf apartments on Mounts Bay Road, still a short walk to the CBD but the surrounding area is a bit more pleasant. It's on a CAT route too.

this apartment is very nice -- its on a very high floor with unobstructed views into the city and the furnishings are beautiful too and more over it is very spacious with 2 bed rooms and 2 bathrooms and costing only 500 per week .. not able to decide ..

You asked about the area and I told you - as a woman I would not like to be walking around that area after 7pm.

Where are you living now? Take a walk around and see what it's like at night especially over the weekend. Ask your wife if she would feel happy (and safe) to pop out for a pint of milk at 8pm at night.

Found this: Club X is at 114 Barrack Street specialising in Peep Shows, girls -1 on 1........ and it's 5 doors down from The Medina.

I think it is a good idea to live within the CBD initially. I don't think that your wife will go out on her own at night. And you don't intend to spent the next 5 years in the apartment either. You're right it saves you a lot of travelling time, and since you love the apartment why not. The peep show or whatever is going on in the street is not happening in your apartment which is not on the groundfloor. Barrack Street between Murray St and Wellington St is not the greatest area but it is not Northbridge. But see for yourself on google's street view. good luck.

We are currently lving at Joondalup.

Thank you again for the inputs. I think I have made up my mind on this. I will not take it. There is another place on Adelaide terrace which we liked. We will go with that.

Thanks Tracie.

As pointed out by galba, the street probably is not all that great and thats why we were getting a good apartment for less ..

Evelin,

I did go to this place in the day and I did not feel uncomfortable. But not sure how it would be at night and over the weekends. I will probably take the other apartment which I saw on Adelaide Terrace.

Thanks.
