Hi would also appreciate any information I have a final salary pension index linked worth about 14.5k (uk) per year. Don't know yet if it is worth keeping or transferring.

I have been looking into this sort of thing recently. First of all rule out cashing it in. It is not possible.

So you have two choices - either leave it where it is and risk the FX rate eroding it (if you don't transfer it within 6 months I think I am right in saying you get taxed on the increase if it rises).

Or you can transfer it to Australia. Personally I have no idea whether I will temp or get a permanent job, whether it will come with a pension ("Super") or what you can and can't do with a personal plan etc etc.

There have also been several posts on here about the companies that will transfer it for you, most of them critical of high fees etc.

So I have decided to leave it where it is for now. Once we have been out there 4 or 5 months I will think again about transferring them out.

As an accountant, I probably have a better handle on this sort of thing that most but I reckon I can do the transfers myself and save a few grand.

I used this co: www.sherwin.com.au/contact.html in Brisbane to transfer 4 frozen UK pensions and 2 Irish pensions, one active, to one super account under my name. Also set up life and health insurance policies.
Absolutely excellent - apart from their web site! Best to call them, tell them Andrew referred you. Speak to Brad or Simon.

Good luck

Andrew

Default Transferring a pension fund from the UK to Australia

One of my business partners is a CA and a financial planner, and can assist with pension transfers from the UK into Australia (if that is the preferred option) and investment of the same in an Australian Superannuation Fund once it has arrived.

If you'd like confirmation of fees, how we can help, etc please send me a Private Message or an email.

Best regards.
