What are they then? Don't they beep in that really annoying noise and then you cross?

I can't say I've ever been that bothered to look!

I had to walk along King Street in the city yesterday (to get from Kent Street to Elizabeth Street). This meant crossing about six intersections - all of which had pedestrian crossings complete with little red men or little green men and the accompanying loud noises.

It's probably not that annoying if you are blind

Well exactly... only to us hearing folk.

Those bumps they put before the road really do my head in too. They could have someone over with those...

Thank you Nicky... I thought they had little green men.

Traffic control seems to work on timings here, and not sensors, so even if there's nothing coming the opposing way, you still have to wait the same length of time as if it were rush hour.

To Gelectrox, yes, the crossings in the CBD do seem to take an incredibly long time to turn in your favour. The worst though is the cross roads at Montague and Darling Streets in Balmain. They take so long to change in your favour that even the locals whinge about them!

It's got to the point where I tend to cross the road whenever I see a green man, regardless of whether I need to...
