Patio Heater to Brisbane, Daft idea???

Hi folks

We got a patio heater as a wedding present last year, and as the weather is so good in Aberdeen  we have hardly used it.

Question is, is it worth taking it to Brisbane, will it definitely not get used or what?? Should we just sell it, will we get calor gas in Oz to work the thing??

People do use them in Brisbane, as it can get cold at night. What part of Brisbane are you going to ?

Why do you ALWAYS ask that? :D

Are you keeping stats or something? Undercover government research? Or just a nosey sod? :p

Yes Patio heaters are used in Brisbane in the winter, I don't know if its worth shipping one though, they aren't that expensive here, and at least you'd be sure the gas canister will fit, and they do re-fills at every hardware store around (while your getting your barbi canister refilled of course).

Cheers,
JTL

good question, we brought ours from the UK and haven't used it yet because a) it's been to friggin hot and b) there is a different fitting (the correct name of the thing escapes me but ends in ....ulator) out here for gas bottles....

to be honest I haven't got me arse in gear yet to sort it, any ideas anyone?

word of warning thou, the shippers bent the top of it to hell so make sure they pack it nice and cozy...

Mango Hill direction or just a bit nearer to town, north anyway.

If it's a good one, bring it; if it's a cheapy, don't!

Quite seriously, we live an outdoor lifestyle here in Brissie and use these things a good bit (especially if you like entertaining). As houses here aren't centrally heated, the difference between being in or out at night when folks are visiting is very different to UK and we'll often spend evenings outside. The outdoor heaters are brilliant in these circumstances.

My twopenneth worth, I'd bring it unless it's cheaper to replace it here.

Hmm...

You Might want to look at these:

Patio heater rrp $699, going for $280

Same thing from a company at $299

Different design, same price $299

Same heater $429

I don't know how much it would cost to ship a heater, and then get the regulator converted, and even then if it would be safe. So, for $299, I'd buy one here.

Or go for the gold plated $800 version :p

Surely all you need is to replace the regulator on the end of the hose. When I bought my heater all I had to do was to fit the hose onto the hose end on the end of the regulator and tighten the jubilee clip so it didn't leak. Can anyone confirm that regs can be bought (or will you need a licence to change it like everyhing else??)

yeah, the hose should be the same diameter, and (if anything) the only difference should be the thread on the regulator. I would imagine you'd be able to buy a regulator and a length of hose at a camping/caravanning/motorhome shop in aus. Then just clamp the bugger onto your heater with a jubilee clip. Easy as ;-)

See you on the patio.

I read somewhere that these heaters are on the top of the list for whacking a hole in the ozone???? Not sure if this is the case and would this mean customs/Oz Govt might not like them coming in???
