Your local post office might do them, I know ours does.

Post Offices don't have the booths as far as I've seen - an employee takes a photo using a camera. This is good for an Australian passport, however I notice there hasn't been specific mention on this thread about if the passport photos you want is for Australian passport, British passport, or other.

Ooops sorry, I thought you knew it was a real person taking the pics. The only booth places I've seen are Japanese things where you can add butterflies and nonsense to the pics - don't think the Passport Office would go for them

There's usually booth places tucked away in Shopping Malls (we've found them down dead ends or near toilets) - they'll say on the outside if they're suitable for (Australian) passports - although we didn't have any problems using the photos for the kids British replacement passports either.
