I'm guessing here but would you not be able to renew the passport and take the old one as well as proof of visa at immigration?

Hi there,

We are in the process of renewing our daughters passport and this is what we will be doing. I believe there is a charge for having a new label placed in a new passport if this is what you want. However, it is still OK to travel so long as you have your old passport with you as well as your new one.

I checked on this site www.immi.gov.au/faq/perm_rs and have printed the relevent page to carry with the old passport just in case there is a problem when we come back into Australia.

Hope this helps

Julie

If you are in Australia, renew the passport through Canberra (Brit High Commission) then take old and new passports to your local DIMIA offioce and they will affix a new label - this service is usually free.
