Default Passing citizenship to children

I'm Australian, my husband is English and he has been naturalised as Australian. We have 2 young kids.We have been living in Australia since 2011.
We are quite keen on passing the British citizenship onto our 2 kids. Since we reside in Australia, I am of the understanding that their British citizenship would be classified as "By descent" and hence, they won't be able to pass it onto their own children.
If we were to obtain the British citizenship for them now classified as "by descent", and then either lived in the UK for 3 years while they're minors, or they settled in the UK later in life, would their citizenship classification no longer be "by descent", and then would they then be able to pass the citizenship onto their children, or would the classification of "by descent"remain , no matter what?

Any advice or recommendations to professionals who may know the answer would be very much appreciated.

Thank you all and hope you're all keeping safe (expats in Oz).

Is it correct to assume that your husband was born in the UK and both kids were born in Australia?

Their ‘by descent’ status is fixed. However under the current legislation spending three consecutive years in the UK at any time before their own children are born would allow them to be registered as British citizens should they also be born abroad. Alternatively if the children were born in the UK then they would be British citizens otherwise than by descent.

Very useful info, wasn't aware of this. Just curious but how do they define continuous, especially with regards to extended holidays from the UK? And do you need to keep your own proof or is it like in Australia where you can just apply to see your travel records spanning years back?

You would need to be spending the majority of your time in the UK. As it stands you’d need to provide your own evidence.
