Part Container?

We were wondering if anyone can advise us on the cubic capacity of a part (shared) container, has anyone got the costings of such?
We have decided not to take any large furniture with us, but probably have too much to box and send.
We have personal items, Joinery tools (quite an amount). Fishing tackle, 2 Cycles, CDs and various other small items. Has anyone had the same dilemma? We would like to keep the cost down as much as possible.
Obviously if we did decide on a part container i am sure we would fill it!!!!
Likewise if the cost outweighed the need for certain items we would not take them with us.
Good luck to all that are trying
Regards Chris and Andrea.

Hi there

I had a quote from PSS based upon 442 cubic feet (estimate formed by reference to a questionnaire I completed) of GBP1928 from essex UK to Adelaide, Au.

We have a small two bed house and are not taking any beds or wardrobes - but pretty much everything else, including bikes and garden equipment.

Thought this was v good quote.

Our stuff will be in a shared container. Pack and removal = 1 day. Arrival time = 8/12 weeks.

PS. It would cost us way more than GBP1928 to re-acquire a whole house of furniture!!!

Re: Part Container?

I deduce from a quote that we've had that a 20' container holds 1000 cubic feet. For that you should budget around £3000-4000, I would imagine (just a rough estimate, obviously. There are plenty of postings on this forum with actual quotations, which I haven't checked).

Of course you'll need to know what your volume is, but surely that's for the removals people to work out, isn't it?

P.S. Olive, 442 cubic feet? Sigh, I just wish we had anything like that little. I think we'll be discarding that much in junk alone!

This was a bargain at £1,700, something was dropped from the original price, after some haggling.

I'm budgeting about 2500 pounds to take what we have which is basically 3 double beds (all can be broken down), a bar billairds table, a bar which is about 5 ft by 6ft when broken down (cant live without it too many memories) and all the other small crap that I have collected over my life. no sofa/ electrical items etc as hubby already has all that in OZ. I have got a few quotes and I am probably over budgeting but I'd prefer that.

How a my 1ft by 5inches cat costs more I'm not sure but that's life i suppose

Hate to be picky (not!), but just to be sure about apples with apples: from where, to where and when? (I mean, you claim to be in Ontario, so you can see why I'm asking.)

Too right! Especially the cat - make sure they wrap it in breathable bubble wrap, though :)

Now there's a specialist skill, cat-wrapping. Takes years of training.

Not so sure on that, she is being a right pain today (seems to think that clawing the C**p out of my leg is the way to get more food), maybe non breathable bubble wrap is the answer!?!?!

To all animal friendly people out there that was a joke.

And (to be pertinent once more) was she happy with them?

The Cairo thing was a tongue in cheek to mark, he knows where I am  It doesn't matter who's it was, the container was from the UK to Brissy OZ, and yes that was the price.
