Parental Visas
Hi!
We are currently in the process of applying for permenant residency as skilled emigrants. (Just sent skills assessment to TRA). My husbands mother and her husband would eventually like to join us in Oz (assuming we get in!) we have been looking into parental visas and they pass the balance of family rule. However, I have heard that this visa is over subscribed and there is a very long 'queue' to get in once the visa is issued. Does anyone know how long the queue is at the moment and if there are any ways around this e.g by obtaining temporary visas in the meantime?
Thanks!
Carole and Chris

Re: Parental Visas
There is a long queue for regular parent visas, but instead look into the Contributory Parent visa option. Higher costs - no queue (at least currently, waiting times are about 6 months).
You still need to be resident in Australia for 2 years before you can sponsor. Requirements such as balance of family, health and character are identical to regular parent visas.
There is also a 10 year assurance of support required.
Plenty of information is on the DIMIA site.
The retirement visa may give a temporary solution in the meantime, but this has high financial requirements.

Retirement Visas and Parent Visas
Hello Carole and Chris.
Have you looked into the Retirement temporary visa option for your parents initially, followed by an application for a Parent or Contributory Parent permanent residency visa application once they have moved to Australia, are "settled", and can sponsor their permanent residency visa application?

This said, I have a nagging concern that the Retirement visa in its present form will cease to be available later this year if the new regional retiree visa category quoted by the Immigration Minister comes into being ...
Best regards.
