Parent visa - Renting?

I will be applying for a Parent Visa on the scheme where I can apply in Australia at the end of the two years and want to find out if I can rent an apartment during this period and not have to stay at my daughters for the duration of this time.

If you are applying for a parent visa then yes of course you can rent your own place. :)

What scheme?

What visa will you be on for 2 years?

How will you get into the country without a visa?

When you have visa.....you will not be able to be in the country without one.

Unless of course you are applying for a parent visa onshore, in which case you will have a bridging visa while the onshore parent visa is being processed, and you will be able to rent.

...but will be unable to do so until their sponsor has been there long enough to sponsor.

What visa will you remain in Australia on for 2 years?

Will it entail being dishonest on first entry to the country?

Looks like OP has a daughter that has been here for 6 years, could she be her sponsor?

If you enter the country on a visitor or tourist visa with an intention to stay then you are being dishonest.

You are asked on the entry form the purpose of your visit.....if you state you intend to stay you will be denied entry.

There is no other visa they can have regardless of whether or not they have children there.

Lots of people enter Australia on tourist visas and then lodge other visas while they are onshore; there is a big difference between a person entering with the specific purpose of staying illegally or working illegally, and a person who decides to lodge a visa onshore.

If OP's daughter is a permanent resident or Australian citizen, and has, been in Australia for a couple of years as a permanent resident or Australian citizen, then she meets that requirement for sponsorships.

Cheers,
Veronika

...but entering the country on a tourist visa with the deliberate intention of staying is dishonest.....and so is giving false information on a landing card (possibly illegal).

Is this what agents encourage nowadays?

What happened to ethics?

What about people who come over on a temporary visa like a 457 who are then going to try and get PR status whilst here?

Is that unethical or illegal to do?

A 457 visa is very different to a tourist visa.

It is unethical to encourage someone to be dishonest.

A landing card is a legal document.

But surely the landing card relates to the visa they are on? Whilst they are on a tourist visa the OP has no intention of staying permenantly which is why they would then apply for a permenant visa in order to so.

Presumably if they couldn't get PR or decided they didn't want it they would leave once their tourist visa ran out.

The 'scheme' which the OP referred to is to enter the country on a tourist visa with the intention of applying for an onshore parent visa and, hopefully, get a bridging visa which would allow them to stay while the parent visa is processed.

It is a way of 'fiddling' the system as DIAC would not allow them to enter the country if they stated what there intentions were....and could refuse entry if they were suspicious.

It is a very grey area. The way the OP put it seemed like it was a routine procedure.....if it was every parent would do it.

Although it would not be posible for most parents as their children would not have been there long enough to sponsor or act as assurer.
