Paralegal Jobs in Australia
Hello everyone,
I'm a paralegal currently in the UK and trying to find work (as a paralegal) in Austalia. I don't really mind where I end up as long as it's within one of the big cities.
Ideally I would like to secure work wbilst in the Uk but failing that I appreciate that I would have to travel over there and try my luck in person. Does anyone have experience of seeking work as a paralegal in Oz? Is finding work easy or difficult?
Just for information I have a law degree (2:1), the LPC and 3 years experience in litigation (specifically personal injury).
Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Welcome to the group. While I am not sure about specific opptys for paralegal/ legal folks, your starting point could be www.seek.com.au. Having said that, it is a little ironic that preference is given to folks who are local (at least that was my experience hunting for jobs in Oz from outside Oz). You may not get many interview calls, after all (I am talking from a pure IT experience). Many folks have been successful landing up in Oz and then securing a job..
Will leave it to locals/ legal professionals to add more detail.
Do you already have an immigrant visa or should you apply afresh?

I'm working in Melbourne as a legal secretary/PA and got offered a job while still in NZ last year before coming back to Melbourne. I think the main difference with me was I had worked in Oz previously. Otherwise I agree with the others - it is difficult to secure a job offer when you're not here.
I can really only speak for Melbourne, but there is a number of personal injury firms here - some of the larger ones are Slater & Gordon and Maurice Blackburn. I might help to approach them directly. I have worked briefly in personal injury - wouldn't do it again, but that's just me.
