Aah - so that explains why M & S had pancake batter and prepared pancakes along with lemons out the front today - thought it was a bit odd, now I understand!

Seeing as it's based on the idea of Shrove Tuesday, which all christians would recognise; and there are an awful lot of brits/descendents of brits there, I would expect that at least some Australian have pancake day too. (If they still have carols about snowy days and robins singing etc then why would they have jacked in a great excuse to eat pancakes?!) :p

yep - son's taken $1 for a pancake from the canteen at recess time and we'll be doing more pancakes tonight - aussies seem not to worry about making own batter, there's masses of "shake a pancake" on sale.

we'll also be doing pancakes at children jump and jives next Monday, raising money for charity while we do it too!

that ready made "shake" stuff is foul - much prefer the old fashioned recipe, which is really easy and much cheaper anyway

Ta for this as I had totally forgot it was pancake day - I love 'em, have to get hubby cooking some up later

Thanks for this thread. They never seem to advertise pancake day here the way they do in the UK (cif lemon I think). I keep forgetting pancake day. I will check to see if I have the necessary ingredients to make them :)
