Default Packing Boxes - Water Damage?

We are just about to pack boxes (ordered through PSS) with our possessions to move to Sydney. I am concerned about possible water damage though and whether any specific precautions should be undertaken (ie, should books be in plastic bags etc). Anyone with any experiences to share – do the boxes get damp at all?

All help most gratefully received….

Purely from personal experience - I did wrap my clothes in bin-liners, also my photo albums, but I had 15 boxes of books and didn't do anything special with them. Everything arrived OK - no boxes showed any signs of having been wet at all, and the only books with evidence of damp are the ones I have read in the bath!

OF 75 containers we have unloaded so far this year, from all over the world , we have had no water damage. I have seen water damage in containers, that have been damaged by careless fork lift operaters, but for peace of mind,as pollya says, just line your boxes with bin liners ........... mm
