Packing a 20 ft container
Hey up peoples!!
Anyone know the drill when it comes to packing a container up. I can throw it all in and close the doors like the best of tem,but i want it to be kinda safe when i open it up the other end. Due to not gonna get full insurance and packing it ourselfs, damage free is paramount! So all boxes in first? Got a big l shaped sofas that im breaking down to 3 pieces, got palstic covers(put some silcia packs in to) and throw stuff on? Also is there rope/strap mounts in container to strap boxes and the like to stop them topling? Any pics or tips cool! cheers jase |

Hi Jase,
I am curious about the replies you will get, as i face the same dilemma! We need to ship our stuff from Rotterdam to Sydney in november. |
Re: Packing a 20 ft container
I can tell you that the stuff that went in our container first and last were my husband's weight machines but I don't know if that is to balance it out in anyway or not.
All the boxes we had are in cubic feet so were easily packed against and on top of each other. By the time they'd finished there was not an inch of space. |
Re: Packing a 20 ft container
Are you any good at tetris?
Seriously though, make sure everything is jammed in and doesn't have the chance to fall over. Our container was seriously full, and at the very back the packers used empty boxes to push down the sides as extra padding. Had our stuff back 5 days ago and have only 1 broken mug and a slide dent in the back of the fridge. |
Re: Packing a 20 ft container
I have just had my home packed into a container. They wrap and pack the furniture first as they are of irregular shapes and sizes. Then all the cartons are loaded filling in the gaps as best as possible. Smaller items go on top of the boxes and the mattresses are loaded towards the end to add protection to the more fragile items of furniture and/or boxes containing fragile items.

Re: Packing a 20 ft container
We packed all the uniformly sized boxes first as they stacked on and against each other in a volume-efficient way. Everything else went in after, with the piano being securely surrounded on all sides. Just make sure that there is no uncovered floor space so as to prevent things from shifting during transit.
