Hiya
This may be a silly question but is there any need to take a P45 with us.
We have just been in touch with the Tax Office with regards claiming back our tax and they have asked for the original P45.

You shouldn't need to bring it to Australia. When we left we filled in form P85 which is a leaving the UK form. We had to send that in along with our P45s for us to get our tax back. It ensures the tax office knows you are no longer going to be UK resident.
