Default Ozzie Driving License

Just wondering if anybody would care to share their experiences with the driving test to get an Aussie Driving License?
How forgiving are they if you screw up a bit?

Im hoping to give it a shot in Canberra soon, any words of advice?

Hi ABC

If you have a ukl licence does it mean you only have the theory to do? if so is it easy or hard?

Yes, just a 30 question "multiple choice" theory test for Licence holders. This is in QLD.

It is easy.

I failed first time, with only 26 out of 30 right.
But, ... I didnt bother to read up on the rules !!
I think the pass mark was 27 !!!

Took it the second time, after reading the book, and passed with 29 out of 30

You can take the test once every day until you pass.
It cost $15 I think.

In Victoria its a 32 question test. I did mine last week and scored 91%, so it was quite easy. Some kids came out after me and one scored 81% and they still passed.

Yeah I found Victoria easy. I got 89% hubby got 79%. We did read the book. Not sure what you had to get to pass

good score HUP.

From what I remember of my WA I scored 28/30, it was all common sense and pretty much the same as the UK except:

speed limits - know these.
Give way. These may well be different and these were the only ones I got wrong.

Me too! You must ensure you know parking restrictions and distances in metres then it should be straight forward.

Most states and territories in Australia have now implemented the national scheme to recognise licences from certain countries (incl UK) without requiring people to re-do the practical test.

ACT is among them, as far as I know.

You still have to get a licence within 3 months of taking up residence in the state/territory, and do a theory test.

I have just sat my theory an hour ago in Queensland. Failed!!!

You get 10 questions on the right of way. Allowed 1 wrong.

The next 20 are road signs, alcohol consumption, etc.

I scored 8/10 & 15/20 with not studying.

The road rules in Queensland seem to be 15 years behind the UK. Nearly all the right of way questions involved unmarked junction. How many unmarked junctions do you get in UK?

Pedestrians get right of way at traffic lights. What a joke?

It cost $15.00 and I can resit it tomorrow!!! Don't think so need to revise first.

Cheers

Lee, if you look carefully at the picture with that particular question, you will see that the symbol for the pedestrian is actually on the road already.

That's why that one has right of way!
That was one of the ones that I failed on first time round also.

I mentioned earlier that I got 26 right and failed, but I remember now that it was only 24 right, I got 6 wrong.

I did better after I had read the book too
