How do you get an Oz Real Estate agent to apply basic customer service skills? E.g return phone calls, reply to emails, mention other properties they have after the one you called about has gone, etc. These people are diabolical.

Your using the wrong estate agent. The one we used, bought me a carton of beer and my Missus a bottle of wine, after we did a deal through him. He always returned calls and was and is good at what he does (knows the market). He actually put us off one of his houses because he reckoned the owner was asking too much.

There are loads of them, ignore the cheesy pictures you see in the newspapers and get to know one of the down to earth ones.

Our Estate Agent - the Aus ones we bought through, delivered excellent customer service, and the gift basket we recieved after purchase (they already had our money) included personalised address stationary, champagne, coffee, chocolates, and wine in a wine cooler!

Like the Uk we have had excellent service and also crap service. The ones who I rate are St Ives Real Estate. So why don't you name and shame the particular estate agents that have got you riled. That way the rest of us can avoid them.....best revenge you can get?

Aussie real estate agents make British ones look like Mother Theresa.

They'll slit their own kids throats to get a sale and when you deal with them you have to assume that everything they say is a lie.

God yes. Don't believe anything they say, EVER. Even if they come across as the nicest person you've ever met - do not trust them. They'll tell you whatever they think you want to hear.

Always do your own research on prices and areas. Join the online real estate sites to get automatic notification of properties that fit your requirements, rather than relying on agents to call you. In fact you want to avoid them having your phone number - some are so pushy I used to give out false phone numbers at Open for Inspections. Get House Price/Auction results independently (you can get info on what places sold for from plenty of sources) so you know what the current rates are for an area. And definitely NEVER believe them when they tell you the probable selling price of a property will be (ie auctions). They always understate for the buyers and overstate for the sellers.

Here in QLD, the Property Agents and Motor Dealer Regulation 2001, deals with both of them in one group . I wonder why ?
