Default Oz plugs on UK appliances

Hi, is it easy enough to put Oz plugs on UK appliances. I can only ever remember moulded on plugs when I was there before.

Cheers

Put is this way, if my OH can do it - anyone can do it !!! lol. Not sure what it involves myself, but yes, he seemed to do it quite easily - laptop connections, vacuum, dvd recorder, blender etc etc, you name it he's changed it !

Yes, easy to change and you can buy them from Bunnings (oz B&Q). If you have a lot of items near by (TV,DVD,Video, etc)then just bring a UK multi-plug extention and just change the plug on that.

We changed all of our plugs as well. A good tip is to bring some UK multiplug blocks with you and then change the plug on this for an Oz plug. This hugely cuts down the number that you need to change.

We changed all our plugs too, except for the moulded ones or adapter plugs. For those we bought an extension.

It's illegal to do it yourself in Queensland (more laws here than population) and I for one would never change a plug here.

It's easy (I'm told by a bloke down the pub whose name I didn't catch).

It may well be illegal in Queensland but your not seriously telling me people don't do it are you?

OR, because its illegal, are they not allowed to sell plugs to the general public?

The website says

Don't do your own electrical work

It is against the law in Queensland to do electrical work without an electrical licence.

You may purchase but cannot install electrical accessories (eg. junction boxes, light switches, plugs, power points, light fittings without a cord) or fixed wire electrical appliances (ceiling fans, some light fittings, stoves, ovens, split system air conditioning).

Only a licensed electrician can install electrical accessories or fixed wire electrical appliances.

Damn annoying that their wire lengths are slightly different for the bloke in the street who changed mine. More strange is that they don't have fuses in their plugs.

So do they have the "plug police" who come round and give you a good thrashing with a wet courier mail if you've been caught fitting your own plugs?

I have my suspicions that it probably isn't illegal there either. Many rules and regulations are reflected state to state, and this may well be one.

Steve'o is a regular poster on this forum, and he is a Qld spark. He has stated in the past it isn't illegal to replace your own plugs. why not drop him a PM to clarify...

Thanks Swerv-o, I'm not that bothered about it. At the end of the day, if I wanna change a plug, I'll change a plug. I just wanted to know if it could easily be done really.

Thanks again
