On news.com.au, in the top 10 business stories that story sits alongside:

'House prices suffer record slump'

I think that they have dropped a fair bit but are expected to increase again as interest rates start to decrease later this year or early next (assuming all tracks as expected of course)

'Opinions are like assholes - everybody has got one', has never been truer when it comes to house prices, economy, oil price, peak oil etc.

The only way house prices will soar is if everyone's pay soars too.

I can't believe how so called journalists can come up with such shit.

Which of course they won't.

Only leaves the option of paying over an ever-increasing mortgage term. But wait a minute, won't the banks love that?

You have to remember that Domain.com.au and Homepriceguide.com.au are both owned by Fairfax Media, who also... dum dum dum... own the Sydney Morning Herald.

So it's in their interests to talk up the market, which is why you rarely see an SMH article talking it down, or predicting a slump.

More vested interests

Well we could try the UK, last time I read the daily mail, house prices were going to be on a BOGOF offer with a free roofload of Kosovan illegals in the roof. Will be quids in cheap workers and free houses

Seriously only worry is the kids, house prices here and UK will probably remain crazy in relation to their income once the world economic turmoil settles.
We bought a really cheap block of land a long while back, when OZ was cheap, the boys can sit on it and eventually sell it and divvy up the proceeds to give them a house deposit. Better they get that than fast cars and other crap kids get these days.

Disagree, as history has shown, house prices have far outstripped wage increases, but hasn't stopped house prices rising !

In the same way that history has shown, boom is inevitably followed by bust.

I'm not sure about that.....RECENT history may have shown that trend.

However, I'm sure I've often read that the P/E multiples almost always return to the long term trend after extended periods of housing boom.
