Are overseas degrees accepted in the Australian job and further education market?
Hi. I'm hoping to be in Australia by next autumn with my Romanian girlfriend, who is hoping to then undertake teacher training in Australia, as a permanent resident. She has a degree in Philosophy from a University in Romania (which followed a USA standard syllabus). Are overseas degrees recognised in Australia for job applications or further education applications? If so, is there anything we can do now to facilitate compliance of her degree with Australian standards?
Thanks..and apologies if this is the wrong forum.

Something that comes to mind straightaway is that Australia does not always have an arrangement in place to recognise qualifications or part-qualifications obtained in some countries. I remember talking to a German, who had PR, but who had done part of a degree in Germany and wanted to finish it off in Australia. Apparently there was no agreement between Germany and Australia, so the university she wanted to attend wasn't going to recognise what she had studied so far and she would have to re-start the degree in Australia from scratch. Instead, she used the recognition arrangement between Germany and the UK, and then Australia recognised the UK documentation. This was about 10 years ago, but just a couple of weeks ago I met another European, can't remember which country, who had gone through the wringer on a similar issue.
So, seeing if her Romanian qualification can be recognised by Australia is one thing to look into. Doing the IELTS is perhaps another?

If u have a degree from Britain, America, Canada, South Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand it will be recgonised as Australian standard. Other countries not so sure. Just ask the Degree qualified Indians who struggle to get work.
It's best to enquire with the invidual university to see if it will grant you entry into postgrad.

Thanks for this. Extremely helpful. My partner has the equivalent of a 1st class honours degree in the UK. Presuming we get Enic-Naric in the UK to recognise her degree in the UK, does this auomatically mean that an Australian university will accept her qualification. In other words, as far as Australian universities are concerned, is the Enic-Naric opinion of overseas qualifications all that matters to them in terms of acceptance of overseas qualifications.
Many thanks indeed.

If you show an Aus uni the aber.ac.uk pages they may well accept her without having to go through the formal process.
You can look which courses per state for teacher training here http://www.myfuture.edu.au/The%20Fac...anzsco=241411D scroll down. There is also a primary teacher's page on the site.
