Clark, Holmes top least kissable poll
18 June 2004
Prime Minister Helen Clark and ubiquitous broadcaster Paul Holmes are the last people New Zealanders would choose to snog, a nationwide poll reveals.
Miss Clark topped the "least kissable woman" category with 62 per cent and Holmes led the men's category with 42 per cent.
National Party leader Don Brash scored 19 per cent in men's category followed by Invercargill mayor Tim Shadbolt on 10.
The TNS survey of 522 people (259 men and 263 women), conducted for Listerine, asked people over 18 years who they would most like to kiss and who they would least like to kiss from a list 24 well-known men and women.
Forty-four per cent of women picked All Black Carlos Spencer as most kissable male over sailor Dean Barker and singer Ben Lummis.
Just 14 per cent of male respondents picked model Rachel Hunter but that was enough to head off newsreader Judy Bailey, who drew 10 per cent.
Model Nicky Watson and television weather presenter Toni Marsh tied for third on 8 per cent.
Listerine Pocketpaks brand manager, Abbie Geering said the survey was based on some of New Zealand's best known men and women and the diverse results made interesting reading.
It was not just the 18-30 age group that rated Spencer - women 60 plus also named him their number one guy.
Although voted the least kissable woman, Miss Clark drew support from the country's youth, with 61 per cent of 18-24 age group wanting to kiss her.
However, more than half of Labour voters still ranked Miss Clark as the woman they would least like to kiss.
Holmes' and Mr Brash's popularity was strong in the 65 plus group but the 70-plus age group rated New Zealand cricket captain Stephen Fleming as their number one kissing choice.
National Party voters have a stronger leaning toward Hunter than Labour voters, but respondents from both parties voted Spencer as the No 1 guy to smooch.
Leading poll results:
Women
Most kissable: Hunter (14 per cent), Bailey (10), Watson, Marsh (8).
Least kissable: Miss Clark (62 percent), Hunter (5), Watson (3).
(from Rachel Hunter, Judy Bailey, Nicky Watson, Toni Marsh, Petra Bagust, Kylie Bax, Eva the Bulgarian, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Mandy Barker, Helen Clark, Alison Mau, Carol Hirschfeld)
Men
Most kissable: Spencer (16 percent), Barker (10), Lummis (7).
