Our Plan B
Hello all....
Just thought I would share with you what will probably be our next move. There were 2 places we were interested in moving to. Oz first choice and Canada second. We had a points test done today by OE, the passmark being 67 and we scored 72! So, we have the option of trying for Vancouver now (which I have to say is kinda exciting as Im a bit of a ski bum and my best friend lives in San Fran. :D :D ) We are not yet ready to consign Oz to the bins but at least we feel we are not going to have to resign ourselves to dying in the UK! Oh and I spoke to my migration agents today and HOPEFULLY we should at least get 50% of our fee refunded plus our fee to DIMIA so at least £1500 winging its way! Thanks so much for all of your support so far...it means a lot!!!! Lucy |

Who knows, we may end up there one day yet (as far as life is concerned, tend to rule nothing out/rule nothing in these days). Best of luck & keep all us stickybeaks posted (maybe you can tell us the Canadian equiv. word for 'stickybeak!). Cheers, Anya. |
Re: Our Plan B
I'm glad that something good has come of this!
I hope that you all enjoy Canada and a beer or two will be kept on ice for the day that you make it to Oz! All the best FremantleRaider |

To be honest, when we were first thinking of emigrating I wanted to move to Monterey, California. We absolutely loved California, adored San Francisco but Monterey was just so beautiful. Getting work was a problem plus Mr DD thinks that americans are OK in small doses, good for a holiday but no longer than that!!! Whatever you do, I hope you are happy. That's what it's all about at the end of the day. Take care D D |
Re: Our Plan B
Hi Lucy,
Good for you, I am glad you have a plan B! Go for it girl!!! Good luck, Cheeky :) xx |
Re: Our Plan B
Good stuff, lucyb. Very glad that you've found another solution. I agree with Anya and many above, Vancouver is a lovely place. It would be my top choice in North America as well. Now that you mention it, I am interrogating my husband why we didn't consider Canada to start with?! He said we just didn't think of it. I blame it on his previous job which kept sending him to Oz. Both of us would've loved moving to Vancouver where the 4 seasons are very clear cut - beautiful spring, summer, autumn and winter. I spent many holidays visiting relatives in Vancouver when I was attending high school in Toronto. I often wondered why my parents didn't send me to school in Vancouver instead. :p
All the very best in your plans and don't leave this forum just because you'll now spend more time in the US & Canada forum, eh! :D Cheers eh, Mrs JTL |
Re: Our Plan B
Good on ya Lucy, knew you'd get a new plan and come through this :D Glad your agents are coughing up some of that cash as well. My brother went to Canada for a while when he left uni, must say since seeing his photos and hearing his stories I've been lining myself up for a trip there too! :D

Re: Our Plan B
Hi lucy, vancouver is a really beautiful place, we visited our friends in june, they emmigrated to vancouver last year and it would def be our second chioce, in fact ,if we hadnt already started the process to oz we may have gone for it anyway.Property is really cheap, youd get a house 3 times the size there ,as you would here(well my part of the country anyway)for the same money, eating out is really cheap, we went out for a cooked breakfast inc tea and it cost us the grand total of 45p.Shops are extremely cheap i wanted to bring everything home with us but couldnt find a suitcase big enough :rolleyes:We were very suprised at how much there was to do there for the kids that was FREE,plenty to do and you dont spend much money. The public transport is exellent,it cost us 8$ for a day pass that got us on the bus from were our friends live to the sky bus 20 mins on the skybus to the sea bus over to vancouver island on the bus from there up to grouse mountain then all the way back again for 8$ amazing and no waiting for the transport as soon as one bus got in the next was there waiting for you,as you can see we were impressed, you may in a lot way be better going there certainly money wise if what people on this forum are right about the cost of things in oz.
tracey,hope this helps. |
