Our housing nightmare but no disaster in the end
Firstly a huge thank you to Anne4Terry who is beyond doubt a very caring and supportive friend. Thanks also for everyones supportive comments about our house sale falling through at the last minute, we are overwhelmed by the amount of caring posts.
I just need to mention a few facts though as some people assume we were very blinkered and went ahead with our migration before selling our property. Yes indeed this is what we chose to do but this is because we could. It is an investment property rather than one we lived in and luckily we have had the support both emotionally and financially of Andy's parents. We're moving in with them in Aus and they've provided the necessary finance for us to go when we wanted to - to be refunded on the sale of the house! So yes we were a little annoyed - actually a fair bit pissed off - at the complete arse hole who decided that he would give us the asking price in November (having already dropped it by £25,000 since it went on the market!) then strung things out by having surveys done twice or not answering calls etc, then to wait until 2 days before we flew to say he would take the property but only if we accepted another £20,000 less than the original offer he'd put in! So no I don't believe we were greedily holding out for more than it was worth as one poster implied. We also hadn't informed him of our move abroad and the estate agent said he hadn't done so either (but who knows on that score!) Needless to say the house is back on the market!
Anyway I felt the need to put our facts straight and to let you know we're really grateful for everyone's supportive comments. We're now enjoying a humid, sunny day in Singapore, by the way don't be fooled by a cloudy day here, luckily the boys put on sun-cream but Andy's like a lobster We've only a touch of jet-lag :scared: yeah right - Andy & I have been awake since 2.30am!! Still going strong though and it's nearly 4pm!!
Well it's nearly time for a Singapore Sling - the sun goes down early here! Or is that the yard arm!!
All the best

I'm sure it'll all turn out fine in the end. Whilst our house isn't an investment property, we're moving in with the folks too, so can afford to take our time on things. Best of luck with your new life.

Sharon & Andy,
Although you probably could have done without the added stress of the house sale falling through, I'm just so so glad to hear that it's not been a show-stopper in terms of your plans, that's the important thing.
Enjoy your break in Singapore and best wishes with settling in once you get to Oz.
