our house is empty

Tuesday: packers arrived at 9.30 am 3 of them, nice guys liked their tea and coffee !!! Well I was very surprised at the speed in which they wrapped and packed things – carefully too which was reassuring to see. I made them lunch which they appreciated – as they don’t usually stop for lunch – so we kept them from their work for twenty mins to eat their sarnies and chips with cold drinks. They left at 4 pm with all the rooms packed apart from a few left over bits and bobs, desk, cabinet, some things from the garden shed and a futon.

Wednesday: arrived at 8.30 am to finish off the packing – after a cup of tea of course and plenty of biscuits!!! Container should have arrived at 11am but turned up round about 12.30pm. Guys had some lunch first then started to load container – it didn’t take them long – but there was a moment of panic when they thought that the 20ft container wasn’t big enough (we had a reefer container), but thankfully everything went on apart from the futon – which was okay as we are using it to sit on at the moment !!! And it also means that I get to eventually choose a new sofa bed when we are in Australia! Everything loaded in a few hours – the guys left as the container person had gone off somewhere (probably a pub), but would be back by 3pm. So we headed off to the pub, came home and container had gone.. Bye bye contents of our house. So now it’s time to chill and enjoy the next 2.5 weeks. We have a couple of leaving parties lined up, I have a girls night out to look forward to and then we go.

In our 20ft container we had (briefly):
3 seater sofa, 2 seater sofa, 1 recliner; tv and cabinet, antique cabinet, bookcase, dining table and chairs, glass cabinet. Fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble drier. Garden furniture and bikes – some tools. And god knows how many boxes of stuff – inc. clothes, books, kitchen equipment and toys!!! – and that was after a major decluttering session spanning 4 months!!

Hope this is useful if your packers are coming soon, I have to say it was incredibly stressful. I felt really tired, but was waking at 4 am every morning with my mind buzzing about things that had to be done. We thought that we were ready – how wrong could we have been – there were still things to be cleaned when the packers turned up! But at least this part is now over.

Good luck to all

We haven't taken anything like what you have taken and we still managed to fill over 400sq ft  Added the two sofas at the last minute. Could'nt be bothered to ebay them had enough

Its really surreal having an empty house. Our friends decided to let us have there house this week. I think she felt sorry for us cause i kept asking to borrow things in the end she said borrow the house ( they are on holiday!!) so we are living in luxury at the mo.....much better than a floor :)

We are off for our family good byes for the last two weeks. This is starting to be very emotionally draining :( . Can't wait to get there though

Good luck with the flight

Glad lastnight went well for you Debs. We are off to Perth in Nov, my father lives in Busselton - about 90mins further south so will be passing Mandurah often. May bump into you one day..
Dreading having an empty home here when packers arrive, have 17 mth old daughter who I'm sure is gonna freak out. her cot will be packed and we will be trying to get her to sleep in a toddlers airbed for 3 whole weeks. Not having cot rails & closed in may mean she'll be wandering around in the middle of the night...
