'Orrible 'Ouses
Hi all
Following the 'get a new life' prog last night. I have not watched many of these shows and good luck to the family who were on last night. Am I the only person who thought all the 'ouses were 'orrible ? Incuding the one they ended up in? I have been in a few Queenslanders and older houses in places like Sydney but I thought the new houses shown were awful:scared: I certainly don't see them as 'dream houses' whether they had a pool or not. Am I alone on this one? G |
Re: 'Orrible 'Ouses
I think it comes down to personal taste G.
The old style Cornish cottages (not necessarily small) are a much desired habitat but I wouldn't buy one. I prefer new and therefore did quite like the house they ended up in. Suppose it's mindset - I don't like old full stop. Not just property but things in general. Wouldn't buy antique furniture etc for the same reason. Guess OZ will suit me fine as nothing is really old is it ? :) |

Am I alone on this one? G Nope, definitely not alone, we dislike new stuff as well. Amusing to hear a real estate agent tell me once that a house they wanted to show me was old cos it was built in the 70s. Obviously I didnt see the program, but I can imagine what it was like. And yes, everyone has different tastes - luckily or everyone would be after the houses I want  . Unfortunately someone got extremely nasty with me on here once because I dared to say that I didnt like a house that someone else had posted a pic of (no, it wasnt their house, just one that they saw on real estate dot com  ). When I say I want an *old* house, I want more than 20 or 30 years! . The newer newer houses seem to be getting worse & worse as BP has mentioned. The Mc Mansions are just http://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/cwm/cwm/puke.gif . Some peoples dream home would be a nightmare for me :scared: . Bix, you dont like antiques? Isnt that what you called Bix da Boss last week? ;) :D |

Hi mrs DB
When I posted this thread I did not realise that it would not have been shown in Australia:rolleyes: Yes, the houses were new and just did not appeal to me. Best wishes G |
At least there is minimal mock tudor.
Mrs DB do you not like 3/4 of the house frontage being a giant dlug? |

Originally posted by bondipom Here they think how many stories can I make that block of units. There was a row in the council recently, about a building development in the local shopping centre; they wanted 3 levels on it !!! Almost an all out war in the council and the local community !! |
After living in 2 older houses in Australia i will never do it again.
Unless you have the time, money and inclination to modernise and upgrade them (which i don't) they can be a nightmare, but in saying that so would any older house in any country. Not all new houses are your bog standard box. One thing i cannot stand is mock tudor!! At my time of life, all i want is an easy life. I do not want or need to be maintaining a house. I want to enjoy my life so a new one is far more appealing. |

Grayling, I can imagine exactly what they are like, when I drive into the city or north up to the SC all you see is a sea of roofs . Makes me shudder LOL. there are places in Brisbane that I wouldnt live if you paid me, & its got nothing to do with the people who live there or how *good* the area is. We dont seem to get many of the "get a new life" programs here, possibly something about praching to the converted? ;) |

There are plenty of 'orrible 'ouses in the UK as well. I would not want to live in one of them either. Not knocking anyone who lives in a particular house BTW. Often some of the most expensive are some of the worst. Best wishes G |

Makes me want to http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/cwm/3dlil/cry.gif when people either knock down beautiful old houses or gut them & make them modern inside . :( edited : sorry, not new, but *modern* |
