Hi.

Anyone got anything good or bad to say about settling in Ormiston?

Cheers.

I live in Wellington Point which is next to Ormiston and often cycle past Ormiston Springs. It looks farily nice from the outside. Ormiston is a very nice area and considered to be "leafy" and relatively expensive. The college (school) nearby is one of the best in SE Queensland.

I wouldnt live anywhere else except around this area. If you want to know anything specific PM me.

It's the dog's bollox.

Cool sea breezes in summer, warmer in winter. Nice leafy affluent suburb on the bay with good facilities just a couple of kms away in Cleveland (Council, pubs, restaurants and main shopping supermarkets etc). Good public transport (train) into city and in rush hour only approx 40mins commute by car into CBD.

There's also excellent schools.

Can't think of any significant downsides.

Yes and no. We used to live in Ormiston and still have a house there, but are now living in Birkdale. ;) To be honest we much prefer Ormiston to Birkdale but probably couldn't afford to stay in Ormiston long term as we want a good size block of land.

Ormiston is a great suburb if you like quiet leafy neighbourhood. I can highly recommend it for families with young children and for retirees. There is a very good state primary school where many children from BE families attend. Haven't heard anything bad about the school at all. Ormiston College is a very reputable private school for both primary and secondary. Again quite a few BE'ers send their kids to Ormiston College. There're also 2 day care centres.

If you live in the south end of Ormiston, you're within walking distance of Raby Bay and Cleveland where there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and two supermarkets, and my favourite fruit barn the Big Mushroom.

Ormiston Spring is a very popular complex - very well managed comparing to Ormiston Manor. I know people who are living in both. Mand8002 and her family live there. A few BE families have lived there too when they first arrived.

The morning and evening express trains to and from the city take 40 minutes each way. We used to be able to go from home to work, door to door, in about one hour. Because Ormiston's just next to the end of the train line (Cleveland), you will always get a seat in the morning.

Most of the bayside suburbs south of Brisbane are nice. It all depends on what you want. Wynnum and Manly are closer to the city, so shorter train ride. But then block sizes are smaller - many of them 400-500sqm. Wellington Point, Ormiston and Cleveland are further away so blocks are bigger - you get lots of blocks over 600 sqm. Victoria Point is a great suburb too if you don't need to live on the train line.

Can't think of anything negative either, other than prices of properties being a bit high. And may be too quiet for people who enjoy night life.

As it happens we live in Ormiston Springs. We have been in the complex about 15 months now and really like it in here. It is ideal for when you first arrive as there are managers on hand for any queries and also the use of the pool. Ultimatley though when we buy a house we would like our own pool so wouldn't buy in the complex.

I hope you don't mind me asking how much you pay a week rent at Ormiston Springs?

Thanks to everyone for all of the positive and helpful feedback. I think I am going to keep my eye on Ormiston Springs as we are going to be spending our first 6 weeks living in the Quest Spring Hill apartments in the CBD but Ormiston Springs as a complex looks really nice from what I can see online.

We have a 1 year old boy so it sounds as if it's ideal for him too..

Cheers.

There are different house styles and I think they go from about $310 a week up to $400. We are mid range and pay $360
