what i`m trying to find out is it readily available in the gold coast without breaking the bank
Ive done a web site search and found a store
mrs flanneries apart from this shop it seems a bit thin on the ground

Hi there,

I used to buy a lot of organic food in the Uk, but here it is harder to come by and quite a bit more expensive (once you are earning the aussie dollar.) You can get it if you look, but nowhere near the variety or choice as the UK, in my experience . There is an organic shop in Labrador and a Mrs Flannaheys (or something like that) in the Miami/Burleigh area. The supermarkets do a small selection and there is a mail order company that will deliver boxes etc - website www.organicsforeveryone.com.au.

Most stuff here has to be grown with pesticides, or if animal antibiotics due to the warmer and more bug prone climate. Which I assume is the reason organic is hard to find and V expensive. You just have to search out the area, we have managed to find a steroid, growth hormone etc free butcher, and there is hippy shop that caters for the alternative crowd with pesticide free grains and herbs and some veg, more herbs really. Be aware the few things in supermarkets are often labelled organic but are not, or vegetarian but contain gelatin from animals its not taken very seriously here, you have to look into it carefully, especially if you have an allergy as your reason for sourcing organic.

Can't advise you on the GC situation, but WA is pretty awful for organic stuff. For a family like us, that was 100% organic when we came here, it's bloody hard making the switch....

To be fair, there are a couple of organic markets in Perth, and through a like-minded friend in Perth, I have managed to source some organic outlets in Freo, but it is still pathetic in comparison to the UK. Maybe in ten years.....?

I went into the pharmacy in Westfield helensvale and the woman gave me a list of organic outlets, the main one was a market for organic butchers and farmers at Marina Mirage, I cant remember which saturday it's on tho
But that is where she recommended buying meat from

There are definately a lot out there, it's just that the supermarket chains haven't come up to speed with stocking such products like they have in the UK.
