Default Oracle jobs in Perth?

Hi,
Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong area... I'm new here...
I just recently found this site and am amazed by all info on here!!!
Well, amongst lots of happy posts, I found quite a few that let me think that my MODL/high-in-demand profession might not at all be "high-in-demand". And I have to admit that I am starting to worry about this.

So, I am wondering, does anyone know what the market for a Oracle DBA or possibly Siebel Analytics/OBIEE developer/configurator in Perth really looks like???
And possibly what the salary ranges are?

Thanks so much!
Nikki

Hi Nikki,

I used to work for Oracle Consulting in the UK, and while I'm mostly doing other things now, I still worked as an Oracle developer during my first 3 years in Australia.

I didn't come to Aus via the skilled route so I'm not sure, but be careful about what constitutes a MODL in Oracle. I know in general terms it just says, 'specialising in Oracle' - but what the heck does that mean!?? My understanding is that DBA / PLSQL developer, Forms, Reports etc doesn't constitute MODL, really the MODL is looking for applications consultants. Maybe you have these skills in Siebel?

I don't think you'll struggle for Oracle DBA roles in any city, although its my observation that SQL Server is a lot more common here at the enterprise level (than the UK). But then that could just be because when I left the UK Oracle was so far ahead of SQL and that gap has now closed a bit.

Sorry, can't be of more help re Perth. I assume you've checked out www.seek.com.au for Perm & contract roles - I'm sure there will be many.

Hi B,
Thanks so much for your very prompt reply!
Much appreciated.

Yes, my MODL is actually in Siebel. Got some consulting background in Analytics.

SQL Server? Wow! I used to work with SQL Server, and then switched because Oracle was a much better market (in Toronto anyway). Sadly I only have my Oracle certifications, and never did the SQL Server ones.
I guess I better re-write my CV and put more focus on SQL Server

Thank you again for the info!
Nikki
