Optus SIM in the UK? Will it roam or alighn to sister network?
Helloooooooooooooooooo!
Like in the title, when in Oz, Orange aligns itself to Telstra, but when in the UK does Optus align itself to any UK network, or is me having problems?
Its just when i was in Oz, i could tell if anyone called my UK Orange mobile phone as i would get a missed call, could not recieve the call, but i could see the number, and also access my answer phone messages on my UK Orange phone from Australia.
Now i am back in Blighty, its all gone to cock, cannot get a signal on either Optus Sims, one PAYG one contract?
Any reason why, or do they not alighn to another netwrok in the UK?
Keith?????

You need to get roaming enabled on your sim/account. Your service provider will do this (e.g. pennytel? or if the account is with optus then optus)
Optus should have roaming agreements with all uk operators, they may have a prefered network and this can be slightly cheaper..

I have a feeling that PAYG doesnt allow international roaming but if you have asked them for it on a contract sim then it should roam all over the place. I have a friend with an Optus PAYG sim and she insists she cannot get international roaming enabled but she is a bit ditzy so I wouldnt take her word for it. If you have a contract and have asked for international roaming then there shouldnt be a problem, I used to do it all the time and believe me, nothing was cheap!!!

Guys,
Cheers, sent you both a Karma!!!!!
Both Pennytel and Optus PAYG need international roaming activated!
Pennytel, well you have to tell them for how long etc, the costs can build up, its not a thing with them that is a long standing arrangement. I have tried today, cannot get alighned with anyone at all without getting it activated with Pennytel.
Whereas, PAYG Optus, i can get aligned with T-Mobile, from what i can gather, all PAYG Optus sims are roaming activated, you do not need to contact Optus.

My Orange doesn't align with Telstra - yesterday it was Optus. It goes with whoever is strongest initially, and stays on them as long as possible the flicks to the next strongest if it needs to.
The network, like Orange or TMO or Optus dont really have "partner networks" they just have multiple roaming agreements. Most allow you to select every network in the country because of the agreements.
Not sure why you couldnt recieve on Orange in Aus - if it rings it should answer. If you are on pre-pay thats completly different platform and it plays games with credit allocation (being pre-pay it needs instant billing which sometimes plays up)
As for Optus in the UK - if its pre-pay they may not like it and require a certain amount of credit before its active. If its post-pay its likly a credit check is required on you. Call them to check if its enabled.
If it is enabled then... go to the phone and MANUALLY scan for a network - such as Orange, and select it manually. It should kick it in. If it denies access, take the Sim out, and re-insert in someone elses phone who does work in the UK. Its band may be setup wrong or something.

Bernie Butterfly, what a name for a big bird?
Cheers Mark, nice one, thanks for the effort!!!!!!!!!!!

They dont align per say. Some handsets like Blackberry have a preferred network list and you can put, say someone like 3 or Vodafone, who have multiple networks at the top of the list - but only because they offer lower rates if you roam on partner networks.
