opticians, lens and laser treatment

Hello

he he just thought maybe no one can read this if they need glasses..lol

anyhow, i wear glasses and lens, toric cos something wrong with my shape of eye..as well as blind as a bat.

Just wondering what the set up is in aus for contact lens wearers. I normally go to specsavers and pay a monthly fee to get new lens every three months.

Are opticians expensive? Are they easliy accessible. Dont know why im asking this as I will be living over 3 hours outside of Adelaide!

Maybe I should try for laser treatment. :scared: Anybody had it done and can recommend someone in England.

thanks...i know lots of questions.

regards

lolly

What a great question to ask as Ive been wondering about this. I get monthly soft lens and wear glasses as back up . I also have an astigmatism
in one eye but im a bit scared about laser treatment.

hiya,
i asked this question a couple of year ago, and the feedback i got was that aus isnt as forward in contact lens as the uk (ie the monthly disposable lens packages you get with vision express and specsavers).
but this was a couple of years ago, so it may have caught up by now ;)
shall too watch this with interest :D

I just submitted this but it blanked me...so apologies if it is a repeat.

Try Ebay (I kid you not) they have Optimax (one of the better places) selling spare space at £900 both eyes and £1200 both eyes but state of the art. Worth the £60 consultation fee for sure.....as mentioned in moneysaving expert.

for lasik you could try St James' in Leeds which is fairly close to you and reputable.

be aware that complications can occur: see here .

contact lens schemes such as those run by specsavers etc certainly don't exist here in Tas, not sure about elsewhere in Aus; online CL companies exist though: see here .

its such a bloody carry on with lenses for me anyway. I have a high perscription, glasses like jam jars..lol so only wear one perscription lens which is a torric (sp) lens, its got those little lines at the bottom to keep it positioned on the eye surface, the other is just a clear lens. You shoul see the carry on trying to position the torric lens on one finger before i put it in..lol

oh how i would love to have laser treatment but think im beyond hope.

the lines are to indicate the orientation of the lens on the eye, the actual positioning is done by gravity due to prism ballasting-the lens will find its correct postion as you blink; you don't need to "line it up" before insertion.

do you have any idea of your spectacle or contact lens prescription?

Ive no idea what perscription is for specs or lens..cant see the writing.. :D

i did ask the optician today if i could have my details for going to aus he said no problem...or did he say...no! problem! maybe im going deaf as well as blind.

I go to vision express on the moor - i know a lot of people knock them, but ive had an excellent service from them over the last 10 years. i pay £22 a month for monthly disposable lens, solutions (2 bottles of the stuff that costs £13 a bottle every 3 months), free lens check ups every 3 months, plus free replacement lens if i lose them, and free sight checks every year with £79 towards specs every year. cant argue with that

my prescription is something like -8.50 ... -.1.75 ... the rest may as well be in hieroglyphics!!

:D :D :D

there is no absolute limit on someone's suitability for Lasik-it depends on the corneal thickness; -8.50 is probably approaching the limit though havindg said that.

i used to work in Optical Express at the bottom of the Moor.
