opticians and childrens glasses
Hi, Just wondering if anyone knows do you have to pay for childrens glasses and eye tests in perth. I have heard they have a school bus dentist and wondered if they had anything like this for eyes.

Medicare does not cover dental or glasses or presecriptions. It may rebate a small portion of (eg) a childs specialist/doctors appointment, be aware all of these medical professions can charge whatever they like, and the rebate is only a portion of the medicare suggested (schedule) fee Eg child sees specialist - cost $300, schedule fee by medicare $87 rebate around 85% of the $87, you pay the rest.
Luckily Perth Qld and Victoria have a Dental caravan/bus which goes to the state primary schools for basic/emergency dental only.
Kids glasses, a very basic frame could be as little as $80, plus the lenses, something they might want to actually wear could be anyting up to $400 + lenses. Adult frames are crazy prices, having just been through this most optician have stuff ranging from $400 - 700 + lenses. Rather annoying there is oads of wonderful advertising like full glasses from $299, however once the script is done that would not even cover the lenses. Lenses, most opticians advertise from $87, my lenses were $329 but thats a very simple optical prescription, recent post on here said lenses were $700 but that was an adult, so obviously depends on the complication. The actual eye test is free on medicare one every 2 years.

That was probably me - new lenses cost nearly $800, and after three tries at making a good pair I still can't wear them!

Tabby is right ...all you need is your glasses prescription and then go online to the glassesonline site. It's a fraction of the cost
