Need to open a nz bank account, preferably before we go. Anyone done this and/or can recommend a bank?

Hi Bryher,

ANZ are OK and will let you open a/c before you get there. The other banks we contacted were very sniffy and said if we were not in NZ, we had to already have PR or a work visa before they would consider us (somewhat difficult when you need the settlement funds evidence to finalise PR...

Experience with ANZ so far has been positive.

Hi

We opened an account with The National Bank before we left. They have been very helpful gave us a mortgage 2 weeks after we got here. We did have the visas when we arrived so don't know how they would be in the scenario Don has described. Very happy with them so far.

ASB Bank were also OK with opening a bank account outside NZ.

Service wise, they are excellent. Can't fault them at all.
