Hello can anyone advise us on what to do??? we are going over to perth in april and didnt know if we should open a bank account now or wait until we are there, if anyone did it before hand how easy is it???

It's very easy... check out the websites of various banks over here... I'm pretty sure they all offer a way of opening an account from abroad - it's very straight forward... Here's a link to Westpac who we're with...Then use someone like UKForex to transfer your funds over...

Yes it's very easy. We went with Westpac and just downloaded the forms off their website and faxed them through after filling them in. two days later they sent us our new account details by e-mail. You can transfer money into the account but can't withdraw it until you get there and identify yourself. That applies for all banks, an anti laundering thing I guess.

Yes very easy, we went with ANZ and transferred money before we arrived into the account!!

We set up with the commonwealth bank in the UK as they are in London, you open your account in the Uk and them put your house money in, they then transfer it to OZ and open your OZ account. Easy, Pete

YOUR A STAR!!!! thanks mate i have just spent ages going through all the oz banks filling in forms then realising you need a TFN which we dont have.....just logged onto commonwealth in london. God i love this site!!!

You don't need the TFN number to open an ANZ account, you just have to send it in when you have it.

Deffo don't need a tfn but tell them as soon as you have one.
