Take your passport into a bank and open aan account there and then. This is what i am lead to believe.

Chose an account, download the application form, post it off and within 2 weeks you'll have an account number. Then when you arrive show up at any branch with your passport and they'll unlock it for you.

We opened a bank acount in Oz from the Uk.
The commonwealth bank.
have your mony payed in this end and they transfer it for you. or they will hold it untill the exchange rate is what you want,
when you get down under go to the bank with passport and drivers licence, they then activate your account and give you all you need.
although looking on other threads on here there are better banks.

Commonwealth make it easy but check what you are paying in fees and rates generally and most would switch. I tend to find only those who dont really check to see what bank charges they are paying are with them. Or students since they dont charge them at all.

ANZ or NAB are good ways to go. Personally NAB I love. Service is great and its just easy.
