Its like all things, you need to look at what's available, and choose the best option.

Don't just believe all you hear, and except it

I'm with HSBC too - no problems, no charges
............their CC also pays you to use it
Their online savings account has good interest too

I'm going to see HSBC tomorrow, already a UK customer and hoping they can sort me out so I can keep the UK account for clients to pay into and I can get my money in Aus with no extortionate commission charges.

Do HSBC in Aus still have call centres in India?

They are so frustrating, nearly had a blazing row with a woman on Monday becuase she kept interupting me and wasnt listening to what I was saying!

I like the ANZ card, as it gives CASH back, in the form of Coles / KMart vouchers. We get about $150 per year back.

They will be able to keep your UK account open, and that makes it easier for your customers.

Not sure about the call centre here, as I haven't had to use it for ages.

Hi mate

I've only ever spoken to an Aussie.

Give HSBC 6 weeks to sort the whole thing out - you apply to the International Branch in London - but via your local branch - and the IB sort it all out in Aus...
Make an appointment to see an advisor if I were you - they make it all clear, and fill in the application with them.
I had an account open about 2 weeks before I got here.

I also left UK HSBC a letter instructing them to transfer the proceeds of house sale once that money had come through, clear all DDs etc and then close the account - which they did.
They might suggest a fax indemnity, which I set up, but didn't have to use.

Cost me a bit - but not much, and it was well worth it
