Default Opening an Aus HSBC account?

Hi all,

contacted HSBC in UK a couple of months ago about opening a current/savings account in Aus for when we emigrate.

We got contacted by the "Offshore banking Division" who wanted us to open offshore tax free accounts etc.
This is not something we want to get into, we just wasnt an account ready for when we move and so we can get the proceeds from our house sale moved over.

Can anyone advise how they went about opening their HSBC account? Who did you speak to etc etc......

Just a little bit of advice.

If you are coming to WA, Perth is the only place that you get a HSBC Bank. No smaller banks around WA.

We went with Commonwealth because of that reason.

Hi Whisky

I think they may have opened one in Booragoon aswell, wherever that is
WA now have 2 branches, catching up with QLD's 3 !!, But beating SA's one branch.

Total in Australia is 23. Full list here -

The ability to make deposits in any Post Office is a definate help though
