Exclamation It was only a matter of time......

Have to be honest here and say it really was just a matter of time before this happened. It was an opportunistic crime and will undoubtably happen again. In September myself and three sons were playing in the Streets Beach area of Southbank. I became aware of a guy (in his 70's) sitting on one of the benches with a camera (one of the big zoom lens ones). I ignored him at first thinking he had his grandchild with him, but after 30 mins it was obvious he was alone and taking pics of the kids. I told my hubby (a copper) and we ushered the children away from the area. The bloke stared at my hubby then left.

Whats happened recently certainly makes you think about how far you'd go to protect your children. Southbank is a fab place and the kids love it, but I'll probably keep more of an eye on them as this kinda thing will happen again.

A criminologist says a man wanted over the sexual assault of a one-year-old boy in Brisbane at the weekend is likely to re-offend.

"Brisbane child sex attacker may re-offend"

Police say the man picked the infant up at South Bank parklands and assaulted him before he was chased off by the boy's mother.

Bond University's Dr Paul Wilson says the assault was opportunistic and points to an offender unable to control himself.

"I think anyone who commits this sort of crime given the publicity about abductions and sexual assaults recently and who strikes a one-year-old is somebody lacking in control and somebody who could easily strike again," he said.

My wife has had similar concerns at South Bank. It is not suprising, however, that such people are going to be at places where young kids are. Won't stop me taking the kids there - just need to exercise usual degree of caution.

Were you still in victoria point when the guy dragged the little girl into the toilets, it was at a local shopping center, parents must have been terrified but police found her, some dirty old pig had her in the loo, taking digitals.

Schools back now, the kerb crawlers will be back. Mine are 11 and 8 and no way will I let them ride to school, they got a big 13 year old lad in dec 2003, what chance would littlies have.

Other recent indcidents at South BAnk include:

"• On December 23 a gang of girls made two teenagers withdraw money from an ATM then bashed them.

• A man spat in the face of a security guard during a fight two weeks ago. He has been charged with serious assault.

• Three drunk men assaulted two guards on January 17.

• Last Thursday, about 60 people took part in a brawl, armed with knives, pieces of wood and chair legs. Police had to be ferried from the city to break it up. "

There was an article in the West yesterday about a guy with professional camera equipment, and even mobile phone stuf to transmit on Hillary's beach, here in Perth. This is a very popular family beach in the Northern suburbs(where most of the british here are).
The guy was in one of those beach shelter thing, and several people told the amusement park thingy there, and that guy then called the police, and asked the 'suspect' to wait for them, which he did(guess he had no choice hey?!)

No wasn't there when that happened and wasn't aware of the other incidents, although its pretty obvious to most parents that it would be a paedophiles heaven. Has anyone noticed if theres much use of CCTV cameras there? Can't say remember any myself? Again I don't think it would stop me from taking the kids there, but I'll be extra cautious. Its very difficult with 3 boys though as they tend to just disappear off on there own! Most of our time was spent looking for the kids, then telling them off! Feel sorry for them really, they just haven't got the freedom we used to have (I'll get my pipe and slippers)!!!

Thought I would bump this thread in view of the news. There are some sick bastards out there.

story in courier mail

A WEBSITE containing hundreds of images of Queensland children taken secretly at parks and playgrounds has links to an international pedophile ring.

A Courier-Mail investigation traced the website, which was closed yesterday, to an Internet exchange newsgroup for child pornography headed by a person known as "Groucho, the Dean of Pedo University".

The pedophile group was found after tracking a recommended contact point on the homepage of the original site. "Welcome, you have arrived at one of the Net's most dangerous, intriguing and enjoyable newsgroups," it boasts. "This group is dedicated to the free exchange of erotic pictures of pre-teens."

Included on the site is a 29-page "Beginner's Guide" by Groucho which details how pedophiles can exchange child pornography without being caught. It also includes an etiquette code for members and a ratings guide to more than 10 secret child pornography sites.

The discovery follows the closure of the original site containing hundreds of photographs and videos taken secretly at Queensland's water parks, beaches and playgrounds, including Brisbane's South Bank. It showed children in swimming costumes and wet playclothes.
Glittababe - you or hubby might want to contact the Qld police if you can remember more about the person you saw taking pics.

Cheers,

DagBoy

I remember being at Journalism college a couple of years ago with this guy.

We were arguing about the rights of Paedophiles and whether they should ever be allowed back into the community.

I got really pissed off when he said that Myra Hindley should have been given another chance.

I am sorry but the human rights brigade should learn when to shut their mouths up.

Because when you kill a child, sexually abuse a child, you know you have crossed a line. You know its wrong and I don't give a **** what the state of your mind is.

If kiddie fiddlers really believe that they have no idea that what they are doing is wrong, then why do they go to all lengths to hide their eveidence.

They never change and will always be a danger to children.

Which is why they should never ever be given a chance to go back into society again.

The rights of a paedophile or child killer DO NOT supercede that of the child.

The courts need to lock them up and remove privilages in prison that allow them to feed their perversion.

A child only gets one chance at childhood, dont let these bastards rob them of it.

Hear Hear, more needs to be done to rid society of this menace. They shouldn't have any rights. Brand them all with the letter 'P' so everybody knows and castrate them just for good measure!!

Why not take a picture of those taking the pictures? We visit Southbank regularly and will not stop but the recent news articles will put us on guard.

There is a sight here that shows Photo's, paedophilewatch, but only of those that have been convicted. It is something that should be done more, and better publicised.

I suppose legal implications would occur if people were publicised without being proven guilty.
Personally I think the death penalty should be brought in for those convicted, but then, I remember the moors murders cases too well.
