Only Australian Passports going back to OZ ? Help?
Hi,
We intend to go back to the UK and go on our Australian Passports. Do we have to get a Visa to go to the UK, as we intend to renew our passports when we get back to the UK it's much cheaper.
Anyone know? Thanks in advance?
Carrianne

Providing you're not going for more than 6 months you will be fine. Just a visit and you can go on your Aus passport with no visa.

I think it's six months. You'll have to check the web site. But I can't imagine it's too hard to get a short term visa (no idea of the right name of it). Why are you going for so long Presumably because you want to

Got this sentence from AHC London. As a general guide, visas are not required for Australians entering the United Kingdom for a tourism or business stay of less than six months. Still looking for visa info

Thank you, you are such a star and kind. It looks like we will need British Passports for OH and baby.

Hi sorry to butt in my Australian daughter travelled to the UK with the right of obode to live in the UK stamped in her Australian passport. This can be done through British High commission. This was a couple of years ago , I don't think things have changed.

$292 (c £119 at the Embassy's exchange rate) for a new UK passport processed in Canberra (http://bhc.britaus.net/uploadedFiles.../pass_fees.pdf), bit pricey compared to the £72 it will cost in the UK, but if you want to stay in the UK for more than 6 months and you plan on doing this enough to justify the cost of a a UK passport then you don't really have a choice.
You "could" however enter the UK on your Oz passport and stay for say 4 months, take a small trip to Amsterdam (you don't need a visa to go there on an Oz passport if it's ony for a few days) then go back to the UK to visit more family and friends, do some more travelling etc, for upto another 6 months before coming back to Australia. Haven't personally tried this but know someone who did.
However be aware that they can deny you entry on the 2nd occasion if they think your "up to something" such as working, if however you have all these flights (Oz -> UK -> Europe -> UK -> Oz) booked before you leave Oz then I don't really think that UK Immigration Service would have a problem as they can see that you are leaving the UK (which the person I know was questioned about but they had booked all their flights and were able to prove a date to return to Oz).
Flights to Europe from the UK are dirt cheap especially booked so far in advance and the whole trip could cost less than a new passport processed in Oz.
