There isn't one really, Amazon is still tops - the postage is high though, cheaper to get UK delivery with a friend sending it on.
We ordered some books at work recently, and it emerged that at least half the office use Amazon - and they are all Aussies except me!

just on another note, shop around with amazon. i mean don't just use amazon.co.uk have a look at amazon.com as well.

i ordered 5 books recently from amazon.co.uk and thought, out of interest, i'd see if there was a difference in price between them.

The result was i ended up cancelling my order on amazon.co.uk and reordered it with amazon.com and saved $35!!AU in the process.

I just thought i'd mention it.

Ta

http://www.angusrobertson.com.au/(they stock a lot more titles online than in their local outlets of these shops)

http://www.collinsbooks.com.au/

there is nothing which really compares to Amazon, where you can get books dvd's etc all under one shop here.

Those above shops should, and do stock most run of the mill books.

I've ordered from both amazon UK and bought here in the bookshops in Aus, sorry no cheaper ordering from the UK to here . I find it is cheaper to buy here in aus if you can find the title you're after because of the postage costs from the UK.

.................................................. ......................

second hand books

http://www.biblioz.com/main.php ( has the aus dealers on there )

http://www.booksandcollectibles.com.au/ ( you can search only in aus on this one if you want for the dealers here )

cheers

*edited because I gave you the wrong link for one of them lol ,an american bookseller - I've so many book shops in" my favourites"

edited yet again , I don't know what type of books you're after, but have a heap of links , most are the shops that I use for certain books , stored in my fav's , and don't tend to be general bookshops

haven't used them before....but wasn't impressed with Angus & Robertson so thought I'd try them next time. Maybe not though. You're right thought - Amazon is still the best..........

They admitted they were "surprised "at the efficiency of Amazon, managing to deliver the books for publication day! Even with the postage cost its worth it for a reliable service. I will take the hint about comparing the two Amazon sites though - could be worth while!

And

http://www.gleebooks.com.au

http://www.bordersstores.com/feature...file=australia

http://www.cloustonandhall.com.au/CloustonAndHall

The last a family run business based in Canberra which takes its trusty truck on tour to Melbourne and Sydney periodically for the best bargains in remaindered books.

The prices are so good you tend to buy twice as many as you intended to.

Amazon probably reckon that there are too many garage sales/charity and opportunity shops/second hand book shops (and there's always Ebay ) to seriously get in on the market here. Besides they will post to Oz for people that can afford it.
