One Week to Go!
It's been about a year and a half now. First we bought the land, then we designed the house, then re-designed the house, re-designed it again and finally the builders started. We've photographed and reported on the saga and we're only one week away from getting the keys to the front door. It can't come soon enough and then we can stop paying rent!
For all those that have been through it before, you have our sympathy and our admiration. Sometimes we look back and think how much time and dosh we'd have saved buying a house outright rather than going the builder route, but then again, it's an exciting time right now to know we're only one week away to really putting down roots in something the UK could never have given us for the money.
Just wanted to share our excitement with you all.

Re: One Week to Go!
The final stage (part of the septic system - a story all of its own) gets done this Wednesday (finally) - weather permitting. After a couple of weeks of dreadful weather (but fantastic surf) it's good that the sun's come out and things are beginning to dry out at last. The driveway, which you can just make out in the postcard photo between the trees at the top ( www.koalakonnection.com.au/home_build_diary.htm ) part way down the page, is about 60 metres long and steep. Steep enough for the builders to suggest that if one of their trucks came down it in the wet weather we've been having their main concern would not be "not being able to get back up" but rather "giving the house a nudge" :scared: from an out of control sliding truck! A nudge? :scared: I'll remember that one in the future!
Anyway, everything looks like it's on course for next week for hand-over. Then the timber floors and carpets go in.
Yipeeeee!
