One way insurance?
For those permanently migrating, I wondered if someone could tell me what they did about insurance in the gap between flying off from the UK and then being settled somewhere in their own property, at which point you’d be in a position to set up an Aus house and health insurance policy? We fly on August 11th and will be staying with a friend till September 1st, so for at least that first month I’d like us to be covered, including of course the baggage being covered on the flight over. Do UK insurers cover this if you’re only going 1 way? Anybodies experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Try the Post Office. My son got one way insurance from them. He only got it for the journey and the first couple of days and it cost about £17.
You'll need to ring them on 0800 294 2292 though as they won't do it online.

Also Go Walkabout do a one way with 15 days after arrival. When we were looking 6 years ago, it was only them that did that, all the others stopped the moment you passed through passport control which wasn't helpful but more are doing the longer coverage although you may only find out by ringing round, it doesn't seem to be offered on websites.

thanks to everyone who came back on this. Just to give you an update I rang Downunder insurance and they do have a special emmigrating insurance which I think runs as 1 month or 2 month. I was quoted £112 approx for a couple for 1 month which will work out perfect.
