OMG! (no. 2000)
Edit: People opening this thread might wonder: what the f is this about?? Well, it may interest you if you are also packing your own container, or something like that. For the rest, not much interesting
OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just typed the longest post ever for my 2000th post, and I hit submit, it had to many smilies, so I went back, and it was gone (I've had that before, but it usually survives).
OK, here's the summary
- container is packed
- took an hour to carry stuff down to sidewalk (7 people)
- took a 1.5 hours to load the container
- in total 137 pieces, about 15cbm (half a 20ft) And that was a pretty big, full 3 bedroom flat.(see packing list)
- used www.allwaystransport.nl (dutch), cost EUR 2750. Included tranport, shipping, transport and shipping other side, paper work.
Not including packing, loading, customs, quarantine.
- now left with only a suitcase for 9 weeks, living with parents and in laws for 7. No Imac, so no photoshop. I had pics, but having trouble reducing them on the damn pc, will try again tonight.
Found a job for me in Bunbury (campus services for edith cowan uni)and a job for Pascal in Geraldton
Also a job for Pascal in Perth.
Will be applying for all. Also UWA still want to talk to Pascal when we arrive, so....
We'll see, definitely NOT getting my hopes up
Here's our packing list. Only interesting for people who are gonna pack themselves and want an example
So, not interesting for anyone else. If I see lots of people downloading I'll take it off
Well, I think that was my whole post, just a lot shorter (lucky for 'youse')
Nobody can accuse me of getting to 2000 with 'one liners'!!!

Wouldn't call it a goodie though
Thankyou Mark. It is a very nice suitcase, and for a suitcase it's reasonable size, but it's too small for 9 weeks!!!! Especially when needing summer clothes (for here), winter clothes (for Perth), and neat clothes(for graduating here, and job applications in Perth)....
Also including all paperwork for graduating etc, 2 towels, 2 pairs of shoes........

Packing and loading was done ourselves, as said, with help from family, quite easy!(loading ourselves took 1000 euros off the quote!!! And it only took 1.5 hours, with most of us standing around doing nothing OK, 2.5 hours if you include taking everything down to the street.)

Must be, cos Dutch people find holidaying in the UK very expensive!!!!
Those 3000 euros btw, are half of what was on our savings account
Luckily still got some more money in some other account, though also only a few 1000....
Better than buying all new stuff there though! Imagine having to buy fridge, washing machine, tv, computer(s), dvd, video, beds, tables, chairs etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fat warm weather business clothes
Thin warm weather business clothes
Fat cold weather business clothes
Thin cold weather business clothes
Fat warm weather casual clothes

Fat cold weather casual clothes
Thin cold weather casual clothes
two evening dresses (1 fat, 1 thin)
I also had to pack shoes, toiletries, books, work papers etc.
I'm sure if Viv Westwood designed a garment that would cover all those categories, it would sell in mega-truckloads!
How I ever lugged those suitcases round the world I will never know!!
Good luck with your move!
Anya.

Congrats on reaching 2000 Simone, and def not one liners. I remember your post about gettting your visa. That has to be in the running for the "longest post ever" award.
Also good luck with the job applications for you and Pascal.
Regards
M
PS. We have the end in sight for our time living out of suitcases. Container is being delivered on Monday (woohoo) 8 weeks minus a day. I cant wait to get all my stuff! Customs still didnt find the knife, even with the xray machines, so now we have to call them as soon as we unpack it, and the shipping agent will drive the knife round to the customs station for them to inspect it. Why couldnt they have offered that option 2 weeks ago

Nah, don't know exactly which cream you mean, but usually a razor will do it!
And the Imac (apple ) is verrrrry usefull!!
Mark, Mairi mentioned the knife in another thread. It's a special knife. Normal knifes are fine
Mairi, good luck and have fun with unpacking!!!!
8 weeks - not bad I think!
If our's takes 8 weeks, it will arrive on 28 July, which will be exactly 2 weeks after we arrive. Sounds like good timing (of course I did plan it this way )
Found out who the transport company on the other side is too:
Transglobal Shipping in Forrestfield (which is next to Maida Vale, where our first house was when I moved with my parents in 87!!)
I will be sending them and email in a couple of weeks to be careful with our stuff when unloading/loading it!!!!
Anja: what's with the fat and thin clothes??!!!!
I don't do evening dresses, so that helps!
And my business 'attire' is a warm black suit. Not bothering with a skirt. Holland won't get that warm anyway, and Oz is cold, and I look feminine enough without a skirt

Just as a side issue, I heard that you had to itemise every thing.
Where you box said CD's , does it have to say how many are in there. Also what about cutlery and drinking glasses etc?
I'm starting to plan what to take and anything you can tell me will be great.
