Just extrememly shite.

I lived in the mountains of northern New Mexico for a couple of
years and the extremes, for me, were far more interesting and
enjoyable.. hot summers with daily monsoon thunderstorms, and crisp
cold winters with snow. None of the crappy rain and gales that
UK winters bring.

In your dreams mate.

One of the West Indies cricketers has a famous comment about the
British climate, paraphrased to "they have 9 months of winter
followed by 3 months of bad weather".

    > Still, we never appreciate what we've got

and we tend to remember the good times rather than the bad.

Most of the world lives in Africa, Asia or Russia where extreme weather (cyclones, hurricanes, drought, floods, extreme cold etc etc) causes thousands upon thousands of deaths every year. I must be dreaming that these people would prefer a more gentle climate eh? You are clearly a muppet with a tiny little narrow minded English view of the world. VERY SAD.

Everyone's different and clearly to live in Oz you need to be someone who likes to be hot a lot. Appealing until you live and work in it and then for me the novelty kind of wears off. I agree the weather in England is BORING, I would never dispute that. We are off to live in Prague after Sydney - not that the weather has much to do with our decision it has warmer summers than England and colder winters (real winters with snow). Its also closer to family friends and beautiful Europe, against which Australia comes a poor second in my eyes.

Well done just add that a Aussie mate has just had 7 weeks in England and Ireland and told me the weather was great only 3 days rain and he wants to go back soon .
He could not get over how friendly everyone was to him and was treated well , as he said very refreshing after the blandness of Perth.

I'm sorry but there is no way it could compare to the cold wind chill factors we get over here! Well into the sub zeros in the daytime.
It was funny we were walking around Queensland last month in our shorts and t- shirts, when all the locals had on leather boots, woollen coats and full winter kit !! It must have been 20 deg at the lowest !! Comparable to a summers day in UK .
I must remember to pack my full length woollen coat when we emigrate , you never know once we are climatised I may feel the same way.
What will happen when I come back to England at Christmas time, I will have to wear a king sized quilt around me !!

Tinaj
If you hate the cold, you should climatise quite well to Queensland.
Although I miss the snow, and Christmas in the cold, I hate cold weather.. I climatised quite well to Singapore weather where I lived before Australia... I even wore jumpers over there when it rained and the temp went down to about 29c

I find Australia cold believe it or not, except for the summers in Queensland. At the moment I've still got two quilts(Doonas : Aussie slang) ) on my bed and a blanket, although I think I'll be removing one this week as the weather has been warming up 29c and is getting a bit humid

My partner is a different story, he loves the cold, and hates the heat. His mother is the same, she gets moody in the heat, my mother loves it.

I remember one year when I went back to Britain for the summer, I was cold... wore jumpers, while everyone wore t-shirts.

Only thing I do miss is the snow, and I can never get used to Christmas in the heat even after 10 almost 11 years out of Britain... It's just not the same.

Everyone is different, some people feel the heat like my partner, others love it, like me

Cheers

Africa and Russia aren't too populated. Asia is, but then I've
never seen any evidence that billions of people (as your original
suggestion implied) would prefer to give up their mediteranian,
tropical or subtropical climates for a British one.

    > weather (cyclones, hurricanes, drought, floods, extreme cold etc etc)

cyclones and hurricanes are nasty but it's rare for any one location
to get hit. I doubt any of the population of Florida would swap
their climate for a British one just because of the small threat
of a hurricane. Same goes for those hurricane hot spots in the
carribean.

    > causes thousands upon thousands of deaths every year. I must be

Yes, that in my opinion is dreaming. Got any evidence that sigificant
numbers of people want a British climate. A majority of Brits would
prefer to swap out of their climate.

But not English.

Yip... turned my air con on today for the first time.... this evening

Weird isn't it...only two weeks ago, I still had my fan heater on for the nights and early mornings... now it's air con time... still got two quilts on my bed though..... I'm not ready to take them off yet.

cheers
