Cool Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

What a great idea!! Finally, someone to share my findings with.

I have been planning a move to Australia for over a year now and after many patient hours or searching I found a web site that does a wage search. Im not sure how up to date it is and it would be nice to get some feed back from anyone reading.

www.acpeople.com.au/salary/

Good luck to anyone making the move to Oz!!

Some area about right, and some are a bit on the low side.

when we were over in perth oh was actually given the pay scales for the company he would be working for, so we know that we are not being riped off in that way.

he is being put on the same level in oz as he is on in the uk.

Something for you to mull over - I have a junior designer working for me. He's Worley Parsons staff and has 2-3 years post training experience. His salary has just been raised to $89k.
Pay scales mean squat in Perth. Worley Parsons are taking the piss with you.

Wow that is good. Some of the Transfield Worley guys aren't on that. A mate of mine has just gone back to Scotland because his salary was a pitiful $73 p/hour.

That's $89k/year not $89/hour. The contract guys who work for me are on $75/hour. $73/hour in O&G is fairly low for Perth.

Hi
I'm a complete newbie, and noticed this thread straight away! I'm still in UK, and am an English teacher. Does anyone know what kind of wages I could expect in Australia?
cheers

Hi,

I am also a newbie!

I am looking to move to Oz in the next year with my family to gold coast area. I am currently a senior design engineer for a company in the UK (Flann Microwave) designing RF/Microwave Waveguide components and antennas (9Yrs experience). Its a bit of a specialist area some i'm kind of hoping my skills will be highly sought after.

Anybody have any idea how much I could be earning in Oz?

Im currently earning £28K in the SW of the UK.

Any help much appreciated.

As this is my first post i should start by saying hello
Gone through all 43 pages of posts now, and although there is some "padding" there is alot of very useful info as well.
I am looking to move to the Perth area approximately October/November time after a relaxing time on a Indo/Malay beach
I have worked for Ford Motor Company in a Foundry as a Mechanical Maintenance man in the uk for 15 odd years and have just been made redudnant. An ideal time to make "the move" i feel!
I am only really used to working with heavy plant machinery, pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, fitting etc. I chose Perth as a starting point as I feel it supports mining, rigging and forrestry.
So only armed with C and G and 15 yrs experience inc 4yr apprenticeship what could i potentially earn and in which sector?
I really like the idea of FIFO for mining (reality is probably worse than i can imagine!) but not sure how far my skills can take me.
Also how hard is it to get my trade certified for Australia. Is it as easy as contacting the TRA?
Also concerned about only bringing over 50k sterling and living on single wage, but thats for another thread!!
Thanks you all in advance, and great site!!!

A good way to start when first coming over is to answer an add for a ''hammerhand '' this will give you the necessary experience to learn how to cut rooves in ,as i know its all truss work in the uk but here their is still a tendancy for each roof to be cut individually due to all house designs being differnt .This will prbably earn you up to 200 bucks a day but its worth doing and after you can buy all the gear and go out on your own and earn 2000 plus a week ,and its as easy as that
can you tell me how much is a plasterers wage in perth and is there plenty of work about
